I've burned through all of Bobby Adair's Slow Burn series (get that?), and thoroughly enjoyed Ebola K, Last Suvivors and Dusty's Diary. It's all good stuff. Black Rust is a little more serious, a little darker, and a lot more... well I don't want to give it away. I'll just say it was great, I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to what comes next, regardless of which series.
well done, as per usual with bobby adair. this book has well developed characters. a pace that moves at the perfect momentum and unfolds the story exactly how it needs to in order to be believable and enjoyable as hellllll. it is bleak and rather dismal times. i love the detail poured into making the reader see the setting and the surroundings of the characters; the landscape itself has changed and becomes an entity with which to be concerned. it's just great. i think that one of my favorite things about bobby adair's writing is that he establishes his major and minor character's personalities so bloody well that if they were to do something out of character, i would be just as stunned as when Darth Vader turned his lightening bolts on the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. anyway, i digress...hahahaha. seriously though. it's nice when the characters do exactly what they ought to do in-line with how their personalities are written. for example, a "zombie" wouldn't suddenly grow a moral center and not eat uninfected meat, even if it were a baby...it doesn't care, right? for this reason, i mention that there is a scene where one of the infected (the sick in this book do not necessarily eat others) is unleashed to 'have his way' with a woman. however, adair does warn that it is coming. one of the antagonists purposefully uses the infected for this reason. you can skip the part if you want. **THIS BOOK MAY POSSIBLY HAVE A TRIGGER FOR VICTIMS OF RAPE/SEXUAL ABUSE** it doesn't make it bad, just a part of the book. i am notta fan of sexual violence, so i want to share. needless to say, before i knew it, the book was over and i was inna good way angry! LOL ... read the book if you are into this genre, you'll not be disappointed. the. end.
Reading the story I felt that I had a good understanding of the characters and had a sense of where that story might go. I was drastically mistaken. Prepare yourself for some great plot twists and a quick pace as you will undoubtedly lose yourself in this one. If you are into dark, gritty, and post apocalyptic storylines you have to read this book. At this low price it would almost be unforgivable not to. I have no idea how Bobby keeps pumping out stories that I can't put down and get wrapped up in, but I'm certainly not going to complain about it.
