That said, I felt this product deserves to be praised. Directly responding to the "this is cheap crap" or "this is too hard" or "it doesn't plug and play". Hi...and Ikea is any better? It's budget furniture guys/gals/children/college students/trying to save money for a house...etc. You can clearly see the type of wood being used in those pictures too. It isn't going to be $1000 material...and even then...it ain't going to get you very far. It's wood, not gold; be fair on its application.
Anyway, the material and physics were composed well. So the mix of plywood and pressed wood, when put together correctly, the structure is sound. SO DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BREAKING WHEN YOU SLAM THINGS WITH YOUR FIST. If it doesn't fit, stop forcing it. You can actually rip this apart during construction. But once completed, it'll out live you. Effort wise, I was literally watching movies as I assemble this and it came together just fine.
So what else is there to say, the product does what it's supposed to. Shipping issues are not product related. And seriously folks, to break during delivery you have to be able to lift 50 - 100 lb over your head and "Hulk" it around for a few rounds. It's also packaged with foam to cushion...So if you've already been looking around and wanting to buy this...pull the trigger. It's pretty literal from the picture. Side note though, you might want to be around when the shipment arrives. Why? It's heavy; that delivery person cares more about how quickly he/she gets in and out; gravity trumps most things. If the box appears compromised, just tell Amazon for an exchange. Pleasssee stop filling reviews with poor shipping experiences.
Strength- I can't really imagine this thing caving in to casual use. As long as you aren't overfilling it with very heavy items it should be able to hold your clothes perfectly fine. No this is not meant for an extra storage unit for your power tools, your survival kit, or even your extra household items UNLESS you plan on switching out the cardboard bottoms for much sturdier ones. The reason I say that is because of the key word I mentioned before...cardboard. The bottoms are made of 'cardboard' and so they WILL NOT hold TOO much weight, but for everyday intended use it's perfectly fine. In fact I found that it's a much thicker and sturdier cardboard than those of my old drawers that were cheap Walmart units.
Looks- It's a VERY beautiful dresser and I'm very happy with the purchase when it comes to looks.
Build- It wasn't too hard to build.
Height- Absolutely not meant for children or people under 5' 5" inches as you will probably suffer from not being able to reach the top drawer or even the items on the top of the dresser. But it is perfect for anyone above that height. So could be technically/partially child proof.
Build- It took at least 3 hours, 1 callus, a bandaid, some music, and a lot of pain to build this. I would highly suggest that you give up all of your inner pride of "I'm a strong person! I can do this with a hand screwdriver!" because you will simply hurt yourself. After 3 straight hours of constant screwing I got a callus, which was expected, but I wasn't expecting to get so pissed off that I then hurt myself. The details that I will spare you of.
Tools- Do listen to the manual and get an electric screwdriver to remove most of your pain and even reduce build time. A second person to help mass build the dresser units is quite helpful.
Shipping- The top of the dresser, and a dresser itself got damaged while in shipping. Which is very disappointing because the little marker to "deluxe" the dresser wasn't helpful at all so I now have a very ugly mark on the top. So do beware of who is handling your package.
Weight- This one is very important because if you live alone and expect to lift this into your house....well then you better hope you catch the UPS driver on time and have them help you because that is NOT happening. This thing weighs about 70 lbs....and no I'm not joking. You WILL NOT lift this by yourself unless you are some type of body builder and even then I will be impressed. I had to shimmy this through my door and then open the package there and slowly bring up each item to my room.
Overall: I'm happy with the purchase besides the damage done to my dresser, and it has done it's job well enough. I was able to fit almost 2 entire drawers worth of clothes into this one unit and that is exactly what I wanted. I don't think I will ever waste my time buying another one of these because of the weight and the time it would take to reconstruct the second one but it was a fun "first time for everything" experience.
Some of the drawers are also a little beat up, but they included a black marker to color it in. Seems they knew.. The disorganization and poor packaging is why I deducted a star.
Other than that, it went together fairly easy and I'm pleased with the outcome.
It is shorter than I thought, and the drawers are much smaller than I thought they would be, but it will work.
