Combining political intrigue and religious verve into a well thought out and complex narrative, this novel sets up a world not so different than our own, minus the small fact that it is a dystopian hell inhabited by acid spewing creatures…..
The Blackbird herself is an amazing woman with superhuman powers and the ability to survive – even in the borderlands. When she rescues Henry and an injured Andrew from dangers both natural and not, it begins a struggle that will eventually explode into a war. The Last Church has absorbed any and all other denominations and thought processes in the Religious world, becoming the first – and only – authority. One of their goals is to destroy ancient artifacts that are considered poisonous and heresy – even beneficial ones that can save lives.
This group tries to stop them.
I found this book to be emotionally driven, one my favorite qualities in any book. I like when it gets my heart pumping, puts my brain to work, and has me on the edge of my seat. The Blackbird’s Song did all that for me and more. You’ll love the exiting plot twists and turns, the characters are sure to please and the book is really well written.
I’ve already read a couple other books by Billy Wong and as always, I’m looking forward to more! Yes, definitely grab a copy! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Henry and Andrew are members of the Society for Conserving Artifacts (SAC). The Sac want to save the relics of ancient civilization from the Last Church. When they anger the church, they are saved by Blackbird. She has superhuman fighting skills. Soon the SCA's conflict with the church turns into a war, Blackbirds seems to be their only hope.
A well written action packed fantasy. I like Blackbird, she is different than others, yet she is just so likable. She is a strong female lead "unique" in so many ways. Henry and Andrew make a great pair and they too were very likable. There is a lot of action, the adventure is tense, there is a splash of humor as well.
I am a huge fan of Billy Wong and The Blackbird's Song did not disappoint. I strongly recommend to those who love a fantastic Epic Fantasy/Adventure. The cover is awesome, it really depicts Blackbird and captures her mystique and fierce personality.
