people on the internet will insist that this holster leads to negligent discharges, that if it gets dirty the release wont work, that youll be mocked out of the room by the guys who spent 8 times as much on a similar holster...
well 2 out of those 3 arent accurate, and the third is the only way they can justify to them selves that they werent idiots for spending a stupid amount of money on a holster when quality wise, there are similar alternatives for an 8th of the price
the simple fact is when you draw your pistol from this holster your finger will be above the trigger guard entirely...unless you move it once its cleared the holster. it was designed this way to prevent NDs.
as far as the release getting jammed up...ill put it this way, in my 8 years of using and training with the serpa holster, i have never had any of the problems that people insist the serpa have/cause(and i have even tried to make them fail with mud and sand).
id also point out that several units in our own military as well as other countries use the holster with no problems and prefer it.
Operator error, is not the holsters fault. practice safe weapons handling
Cons: Not designed for a long slide. Description says "Fits Smith and Wesson MP 9/40 and Sigma (Sigma R only)," however, if you have a long slide M&P, the 5" barrel protrudes, and if you are using stock S&W sights, the front sight catches on the holster when trying to draw. I found I would have to rotate the gun a bit while drawing in order to clear the sight. That's definitely not something I want to deal with under any pressure.
I rasped off an angle inside the end of the holster. Now it isn't too bad to draw; at least it doesn't completely catch anymore. For general carry while target shooting at my place, it's OK. For a 4.25" or shorter barrel, you'd probably be fine.
