The CQC Sportster is designed to support civilian concealed carry or range use. This injection-molded holster features the same dependable SERPA technology but is tailored for low-threat civilian operations. Law enforcement and military should use the original SERPA CQC Holster for high-threat-level environments.
- Gunmetal gray holster body with black SERPA Auto Lock release
- Passive retention detent adjustment screw
- Reinforces full master grip and superior draw technique
- Immediate retention and audible click upon re-holster for security
- Speed-cut design allows rapid draw, target acquisition, and re-holster while keeping eyes on target
- Includes paddle platform only
Note: For the S&W 5900/4000 weapon, this holster only works with the round trigger guard for that weapon.

Holster only comes with paddle, but if you have a spare belt loop handy it will fit. Weapon is secure with a little more slop than it's older brother (talking 1/8 " here, people) however I am comparing my G17 (original Serpa) to a P229 (Sportster) so can't be sure it's just this. Also lacks the uber-cool carbon fiber status symbol which adorns the new CQC.
Now, I've just been using this to run around to the Kwiky-Mart and back so if you're going to mount this on a duty rig or something, read another review where someone did that. My partner did it with an original Serpa forever w/o issue but there's my CYA statement.
That being said, it's supposedly made of a lighter-duty polymer but it does not feel cheap and in the few times I've banged it on random objects thanks to my under-developed walking skills, it took the abuse. Probably weaker than the CQC but let's face it; if you're going to be EXREEEME and need an indestructable holster you should not be using a level 2 paddle. So if you don't care about being tacticool, you shouldn't notice a thing.
The only complaint I have is that there's a plastic insert that rides on the tension screw which puts pressure on the bottom of the pistol's receiver to keep it snug. This piece is about 1/16 in thick and rattles around when the holster is empty. Nothing huge, but kind of annoying once you notice it. I fixed it fine by thickening it up with some 1" tape and didn't effect the function at all.
Pros: Works. Does not shatter when actually used. Tension can be adjusted well to fit shooter.
Cons: If OCD you will notice a slight rattle with empty holster. This can be corrected using household items and a 3-digit IQ. A belt attachment would be nice.
Other: Is gray, does not have fancy carbon-fiber styling. So if having a shiny BLACtical holster and being all ninja is important to you, dump some extra money for the CQC. Also, don't be that guy.
Final: It works; buy it. Spend the extra 20 bucks you would use for a CQC on ammo. Or beef jerky. Your call.
I am very glad that I did. I found the concerns of mine and others to be unfounded. From the very first draw, my finger along the side of the gun automatically pressed the lever for release. To be honest, I wasn't even aware that the lever was being pressed. I think that the problem is from those who push the release lever with the tip of the finger. If you draw the holster the way that you are supposed to, trigger finger extended along the side of the holster, there is no problem. The draw is natural and smooth. As in anything, especially firearms, practice is important.
I liked it so much, I went and got another for my Glock 21 a week later. I just wish that they made one for my Kahr, my main carry gun.
