For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader, TV's "The Office," "Boston Legal") has been one of the FBI's Most Wanted fugitives. Last season, he mysteriously surrendered to the FBI but now the FBI works for him as he identifies a "blacklist" of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all... with the caveat that Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone, TV's "Law & Order: Los Angeles") continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal and "see the bigger picture"... whether she wants to or not.

James Spader plays Red like no one else could. His phenomenal sarcastic humor never crosses the fine line between great, and over done. His facial expressions are half the dialogue in some instances. There were criticisms last season that the other characters were weak. I just didn't find that to be true. We get to know each character gradually as the larger, ongoing plots unfold. The bigger story leads you to make assumptions, and then challenges those ideas later. Not many shows pull that off over such a span of time. Music and sound effects? Perfection!
I can watch the show on TV, and do record it, but I will continue to watch on Amazon with a season pass. I insist on viewing The Blacklist without commercials or distractions.
Yet as you may see that if his psychosis seems to rise not from a fantasy he needs to cope but from a reality where powerful people rule with dark purpose. So he and some talented people get do these fun times where if you have the nerve suspend belief and enjoy yourself it just made up. Or is it?
I was completely hooked from the very first episode. The acting and direction is excellent, the story lines always leave a question as to what happens next. By the end of the first season, I felt something for every single one of the characters, and couldn't wait to get started on season 2. Just watched the first episode and can say for certain that the pace hasn't dropped off. Look forward to what happens next.
James Spader ( who better be nomintated & WIN this year! ) is not only a fascinatingly brilliant actor, he is a complex mystery with scrumptious storytelling which I find extremely hilarious & perfectly untimely. Genius! I love the 'crazy' relationship with Lizzy. The tender moments between these 2 characters is perfectly done. It'll be interesting to see how the whole Tom Keen thing pans out, as well as Red's sideways confession to Lizzy.
Season One caught me immediately - this show is brilliantly crafted to carry both one story per show through the titular Blacklist, as well as slowly unveiling larger plots threading throughout the show. Most of the supporting actors are extremely good as well. Megan Boone started well but a little "generic" - by the end of season one, she had grown well above the start and her chemistry with Spader is great. Harry Lennix and Alan Alda are fantastic, as usual - and introducing Peter Stormare will make this season so much better. I can't wait!
