Plan to spend at least $1000 more for the right equipment to start using it and $3000 more to use it professionally. You will need:
Wide angle lens - Crop factor forces you to use very wide lenses. I chose the Tokina 11-16mm and a mix of Canon L lenses
Support rig - I truly mean it. No rig, no use. You need it to attach all the stuff to it
External battery - I use the Juicebox battery for 99 bucks.
External Mic - The default sound is completely unusable. Can barely be used to sync audio
Multiple large SSD - It needs to be a VERY fast SSD to shoot RAW or it will drop frames
SDi Monitor - The back screen is unusable outdoors. You MUST have an SDi monitor. I bought the SmallHD 502 for $1200
Anti-Glare - Even indoors you will need to apply an anti-glare film to the screen
Now, having said that, this camera is amazing. If you're stepping up from DSLR even the 1080p Pro Res (10bit rather than 8) will blow away what you're used to. The Cinema DNG RAW files are mind blowing but be prepared to spend some time learning to properly grade them. One note here: Davinci Resolve will NOT work on Mac minis but after Effects does fine here. The 13 stops of available dynamic range is a huge deal for something in this price range and lends what you shoot a more cinematic feel, in addition to some beautiful night shooting capability. The grain has a very filmic feel as well.
This is a crop sensor but in my view its not much different than working with most dslr's and there are workarounds for wide shots. This is not a "complete" camera per se, you'll need to invest in SSD's, SSD reader, storage (G Drive, etc), rigs, battery (the built in battery is good for roughly an hour at best), mic, cables, viewfinder (the touchscreen might as well be a mirror when shooting outdoors), etc. It does have rolling shutter, so whip pans will give you "Jello Cam". It really is a cinema camera and you'll need the professional accessories to get the most out of it. But if you want cinema quality footage that doesn't cost the same amount as a new car, this is the best camera on the market for the price.
The only reason I went with the 2k over the 4k is.. well I don't own a very powerful computer and I don't own a 4k tv. I did want a sharp image and "future proof" my footage.
I do have to warn you!! You can not delete footage in the camera, which makes this camera more like REAL FILM. You have to go transfer "process" the footage into the computer. Like real film you can't just simply erase a shot. ;)
Now owning the camera for a few weeks I have to say it lays in bed with me at night to charge, never leaves my side!
