This item in an SDI equipped facility is an absolute staple item. I probably have 10 in use right now. Easy. Simple. Converts pretty much any flavor of SDI, HD-SDI to HDMI for display on any monitor equipped with an HDMI jack. This simple brick can be mounted to the back of most equipment with some industrial-strength 2" velcro, some zip ties, etc. This adapter allows consumer-grade plasmas or LCD screens to become studio monitors. It will save you a ton of money compared to buying special monitors with the capability to purchase an even more specialized, proprietary SDI card (I'm looking at you, Panasonic). The 1/4" audio jacks provide line level audio of any pair of the embedded 8 channels of audio in the SDI signal. I use this to drive some powered monitors locally in a green room (the HDMI signal also carries the audio signal along to the attached monitor & internal speakers). This only converts from SDI to HDMI. If you need to go the other way, Blackmagic Design sells another item for that purpose (Blackmagic Design HDMI to SDI Converter). Double check before purchasing.
