Very good card but with limitations

First of all i bought this card for the sole purpose of streaming on twitch, i bought this card based on a broadcaster i love watching he goes by the name of riptidepow very good caster and he highly recommended this capture card to me with that said let me share my review of this card.

First this capture card does not show any video signal to media express when you pop it in your desktop like that, you have to configure it to work on your console first most likely that's why most people who are saying it didn't work for them didn't bother trying to configure it you can look on youtube it helps you to set it up right.

Second if you use this card to stream or record on consoles like xbox one and ps4 or any consoles for that matter it will not work on 1080p at all it must be on 720p and 59.94fps on your media express preferences and black magic design control panel and your console display settings must be at 720p for it to input a signal otherwise it wont work.

Third the only reason why i'm giving it 4 stars is cause i can't have my console display settings at 1080p when i have it connected to my consoles and on the xbox one and ps4 you can see the huge difference on how clear it looks between 1080p and 720p display on your monitor, for the xbox 360 and ps3 not much difference. Also you can't have a signal on your monitor or TV without first opening media express, xsplit or OBS in short words one of these 3 programs or whatever program you use must be open at all times if you want a signal on your monitor or TV.

Other then that this capture card is good for streaming on twitch it gives you an awesome quality stream even at 720p settings and some of the viewers have said my stream looks more professional. Overall i do recommend this card if you plan to use it for streaming but if you care about 1080p display and it really bothers you to switch to 720p then i don't recommend this capture card.

P.S i had problems getting video signals from my ps4 spent hours looking on google to see how can i get it to display and i found the solution just follow these steps and you'll get the signal working in no time.

Step 1. connect to TV

PS4 - settings - system - turn off <HDCP>

settings - system - sound and screen - video output settings - resolution - automatic

turn off PS4

Step 2 connect to intensity pro.

PC - control panel - blackmagic design control panel -

set = HDMI & Component

set input = HDMI Video & HDMI Audio

Set default video = HD 1080i 59.94 important!!!!!!

NOW You can see the PS4 home in Blackmagic Media Express.

Step 3

PS4 - settings - system - sound and screen - video output settings - resolution - 720P

PC - control panel - blackmagic design control panel - Set default video = HD 720P 59.94 important!!!!!!

NOW, Your PS4 HDMI output is 720P without HDCP

Well worth it's cost

Just summery - Well worth it's cost, and an excellent product, even overcoming all shortfalls in it.

The bad stuff first.
-No automatic detection/switching of inputs between digital/analog
-Included Software suite from Blackmagic Design (Download the latest from their website) is, slightly finicky and could use some additional features (such as duplicating audio channels from devices that only have one RCA analog output)
-The Capture card must be activated to take in an input, before the pass-through will work. (IE, some program will have to be looking at the input stream for the card to push it to an external stream, or in short no passive passthrough)

The Unknown benefits.
-Works stellar with Windows 8.1 (verified windows 8.1 enterprise), & the Driver/Software (Ver. 10 tested, from their website) is completely stable and 100% functional
-Works wonderfully on Sabertooth X58 Motherboards
-While installed, this effects the entire system while doing transcoding jobs, and improves the time it takes to do them. (some times to fast)
--Example. iTunes - Installed it to be able and use a gift card on a TV series to watch, and to help manage my audio library. The file conversions from WMA to M4A was insanely fast. 3-6 seconds conversions time & with over 1400 songs (4-6 min average) it took less then an hour. CPU usage extremely low during this as well. 11-15% total (normally 8-13% for the amount of programs I was running)[of an i7-960], but the system was slowed to a sluggish response because of just how much data was being pushed to the HDD setup 18-25 MB/s activity (bursts to 30MB/s) on Mechanical WD Green RAID 0 (2x2TB) drives{aam disabled to achieve those speeds}
---In short, it did it's job so fast the HDD were not able to keep up with it's ability to transcode audio file formats, even from bloated sw like iTunes.

The expected benefits
-Works great,
-Does what is advertised & more
-Can use HDMI out, while using analog in & vice versa (great if you only have HDMI inputs on a monitor or external display)
-Can allow programs to stream directly from it w/o needing to capture the footage

The card, program settings, & drivers(By drivers I mean the Control panel plugin that will be installed to control input/output to a degree) require some setup and isn't the most new user friendly, but is straight forward.

Did not work - spent hours trying -

These units must work for someone - or they would be off the market. I really needed them for the application I have which in multiple HDMI inputs from live camera to computer for streaming. These were recommended by Livestream the software vendor. The other ratings say that when you install the update (available on line), they work great. All I could get for the update was an install error - so they never worked. I tryed many ways, and different computers - dumped hours into tryingt to get them working. The help line was marginal - I had an issue with another different unit and they got me thru it in a very shot time, but the helper that I got on these units couldn't seem to figure out what the issue was getting the update to install. Then she really floored me - when she said that the units had never been tested for multiple video input installations - duhhh - they need to tell that to LiveStream - I had just paid almost $1000 for their program - which clearly shows it using their video cards (and no one elses will work), and up to four cameras. I think the right hand needs to start talking to the laft hand beflre they start spending tons of $$$$ on promotional ads - and they don't even know they have this major issue. I ended up send it all back, and going another route.
