Melinda thinks she's in control of her life till she meets Peter. Peter thinks he is content with his life till he meets Malinda. I really enjoyed reading this novella, because these two were not looking for love. They were not needy. Love found them and upset their plans. A delightful read you can read in a couple of hours. I have read all this author's books, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Happy reading😊

Another classic by Nerys Leigh! At this point, I don't even remember how I stumbled across Nerys Leigh's writing, but I do know that I have read all the books she's published. She is such a talented, witty writer and I truly enjoy her work. This novella made me laugh out loud several times, which is important for me when I'm reading. It was just the right length and I enjoyed getting to know more about characters that had appeared briefly elsewhere in her writing. I also love that her books, though related, do not end on cliffhangers since they all contain complete stories with their own resolutions.

One of the things that I've noticed about Ms. Leigh's writing is that I always end up reading while tethered to an electrical outlet. This has happened with EVERY one of her books. Why? It happens because I read books on the Kindle app on my smart phone, and even when the phone is desperately in need of charging, I just can't put the books down like I usually do with others. Goes to show how well-written this and all her books have been.

I will continue to read work from this author, and encourage you to check her out!

A wonderful start to a new series!

A heroine who seeks independence, knows her worth, and knows she'll never fall in love. A hero who has loved once, has the broken heart to prove it, and vows to never seek another bride. A reader, that would be me, who nearly burns dinner because she can't stop reading, knowing these two are meant to be.
Sweet romance, lovable characters, adventure, laugh out loud funny moments, an adorable little boy, and a town where one can find home sweet home: what a lovely start to this prequel series. Did I mention romance? It's just so perfect.
Throughout it all, the characters seek God's counsel in a way that is true to life and touching. In a world that all too often feels fraught with sorrow and violence, it was a welcome respite to spend time in this book and emerge inspired and refreshed.
I can't wait until the next time I can go Back to the West in the next novel.

The Blacksmith’s Heart is the first book in Nerys Leigh’s Back to the West series, so you don’t need to have read any of her other books in order to enjoy this one. Having said that, if you have read any of her earlier Escape to the West mail order bride stories, you will recognise some of the characters in The Blacksmith’s Heart (even though the Escape to the West books are set around 15 years later than The Blacksmith’s Heart).

The Blacksmith’s Heart is the story of widower Peter Johnson, the blacksmith in Green Hill Creek, and father to ten-year-old Jesse. He’d never planned to marry again, but that was before Miss Malinda Wilson moved into town with her sister and brother, the new doctor. (I’m guessing they are the hero and heroine of the next two novels in the series, The Doctor’s Courtship and The Spinster’s Hope, both apparently coming in 2018).

Anyway, Peter isn’t looking for a wife, which is good because Malinda isn’t looking for a husband. Although Peter is handsome and smart and interesting and funny, with broad shoulders and brilliant blue eyes …

Okay, so this is a romance novel, which means we all know how it’s going to end. But the fun part is the journey, and it’s definitely fun. Peter has a disabled son, Jesse (who we later see in An Unexpected Groom). But right now Jesse is a mischievous ten-year-old who wants to ride and fish and pick blackberries … all the things a normal child would want to do.

It's a great story, perfect for long summer days (if you’re Down Under, like me) or long winter nights (for the rest of you). Recommended for fans of Christian romance from authors such as Regina Jennings and Karen Witemeyer.
