So, this 'hardwood' is hardly that. It's not pine, but whatever it is, is flimsy, splintery, and low-grade. If you're looking for something you can actually spar with, look elsewhere. Invest the extra bit of cash and buy the synthetic or cold steel blades; this 'martial art hardwood long sword' is not martial, long, or hardwood. I haven't actually used it yet, but I suspect, given past experience with wooden wasters, that they'd barely hold up. Also, for what it's worth, I had to return one of the two I bought, BECAUSE IT ARRIVED WITH DEEP CRACKS, SPLINTERS, AND CHIPS, IN SUCH A STATE THAT IT WAS FAR TOO DANGEROUS AND DAMAGED TO BE USED EVEN FOR SOLO-DRILLING. I have a feeling that these are not quality-checked items; even the better of the two swords arrived looking haggard.
Last bit of complaining: the construction is awful. You're looking at a roughly cut, glued together mess. The blade and tang are on piece; the crossguard is a single jigged knob of wood, with an over-large slot, so it rattles around with the slightest jar and comes loose frequently.Read more ›
It's lightweight yet strong! It has seen many uses an a costume prop sword!
My friends and I LARP with them and we haven't broken one yet! (We don't pad them to soften the blows most of the time)
However, my big issue is that the two swords we received were made out of completely different wood!
One was a hardwood sword that looks just like the picture and is described appropriately.
The other is an extremely lightweight softwood that weighs a fraction of what the hardwood one weighs.
This is a huge difference between the two swords and one is clearly an inferior wood.

purchased to use as a theater prop, after adding aluminum tape to the "blade", it was nicely realistic while completely safe for the actors.Published 26 days ago by LuvAmazon
