Do not buy this sword. I bought two for my wife and I to spar with (read: not to settle disputes). Although the main product image represents the product you'll probably receive, it is both thinner, and smaller, than what you expect. Further, it's really not a longsword (there's hardly enough room for a single hand to grip it; with sparring gloves, you'd have no room at all), and it suffers from really whacky balance. Whoever made this would have done better to shift the crossguard up 4-6 inches, lengthening the hilt and improving the balance of the overall product. This is especially prominent because the pommel is made of some very light wood (pine?) and has no weight at all, and therefore does not balance the sword.

So, this 'hardwood' is hardly that. It's not pine, but whatever it is, is flimsy, splintery, and low-grade. If you're looking for something you can actually spar with, look elsewhere. Invest the extra bit of cash and buy the synthetic or cold steel blades; this 'martial art hardwood long sword' is not martial, long, or hardwood. I haven't actually used it yet, but I suspect, given past experience with wooden wasters, that they'd barely hold up. Also, for what it's worth, I had to return one of the two I bought, BECAUSE IT ARRIVED WITH DEEP CRACKS, SPLINTERS, AND CHIPS, IN SUCH A STATE THAT IT WAS FAR TOO DANGEROUS AND DAMAGED TO BE USED EVEN FOR SOLO-DRILLING. I have a feeling that these are not quality-checked items; even the better of the two swords arrived looking haggard.

Last bit of complaining: the construction is awful. You're looking at a roughly cut, glued together mess. The blade and tang are on piece; the crossguard is a single jigged knob of wood, with an over-large slot, so it rattles around with the slightest jar and comes loose frequently.

Very happy with the swords. They will be used as props, not for practice swordplay, so they serve their purpose perfectly. Very good quality, light weight, durable and ready to be stained or painted.

This sword is well made and easy to paint!
It's lightweight yet strong! It has seen many uses an a costume prop sword!
My friends and I LARP with them and we haven't broken one yet! (We don't pad them to soften the blows most of the time)

My wife and I ordered two of these swords for cosplaying and they are a good for this purpose. After some sanding and painting they look pretty convincing.
However, my big issue is that the two swords we received were made out of completely different wood!
One was a hardwood sword that looks just like the picture and is described appropriately.
The other is an extremely lightweight softwood that weighs a fraction of what the hardwood one weighs.
This is a huge difference between the two swords and one is clearly an inferior wood.
