Activate Scout Mode to give yourself a distinct tactical advantage! This tried and tested technology enhances important in-game audio cues – such as footsteps and weapon switching sounds – allowing you to quickly and accurately pinpoint your opponents' location before they pinpoint yours! |
The jewel in the Sound BlasterX G6’s proverbial crown is our custom-designed Xamp discrete headphone amplifier. As opposed to single amplification found in other gaming DAC amps, Xamp amplifies both audio channels individually. You’ll enjoy more detailed audio on highs, mids, and bass. Xamp will drive any gaming headset excellently, but it goes even further than that. The ultra-low 1Ω output impedance perfectly drives performance-grade sensitive 16Ω in-ear monitors all the way to studio-grade 600Ω headphones. |
The specifications of the Sound BlasterX G6 are impressive. It serves as a 32-bit 384kHz DAC with an ultra-high dynamic range of 130dB. The DAC features an oversampled multi-bit modulator with mismatch shaping technology that eliminates distortion, ensuring that audio is streamed with the highest level of detail and fidelity. The Sound BlasterX G6 also supports hi-res PCM and DoP audio formats. |

The sound is better, and it was already pretty good. Be it playing Master audio tracks in Tidal and getting better separation of the instruments and better power, or the visceral thrill that separation and punch brings playing Battlefield 1. The sound is great. Except if I turn on 32 bit 384khz it does make clicky sounds and a there is a hiss sometimes before audio starts playing. I'm perfectly happy with 24 bit 96khz though. So I don't take too much off for that. Lets say 1/2 a star.
The Dolby Digital decoding takes the spot as the best feature they added. The difference in console games, in watching TV and movies. Its very noticeable over the stereo pcm before.
Then finally the one thing they did that is worse than the original, THE STUPID LIGHT ON THE FRONT THAT YOU CANNOT TURN OFF, nor easily tape over. I use this in my bedroom, I sleep in my bedroom, the computer provides it enough power while turned off to keep the light on. They wisely gave you the option to disable the RGB light on the top, but not the light by the dial. I'm reduced to draping black cloth over it before I go to bed.
Please stop it with these LEDs! It is unnecessary!
-I bought this product for music Production and Gaming
-This is the first time I buy a Blaster or any other product from Creative
-This is the first time I buy a Soundcard that doesn't come with my mother board
-I'm moving to 32bit from 16bit
After researching for quite a while, I found out that most 32bit soundcards cost around 250$-400$ and are NOT portable.
Since I move a lot between PCs and also use Nintendo Switch, I thought it may worth a try.
----------------------
Product Look:
-The device itself looks very good, it has a smart button layout and is not heavy as it may look
-It has lights around buttons so you're able to know which mode is on when it's dark
-The RGB logo in the middle is very cool and has options for color, cycling speed and more through the "Sound Blaster Connect 2" software on their site
-It has a nice light around the "volume wheel" but unfortunately you cannot change it's color apart from white/red
-The top surface is pretty reflective so it looks very nice around Leds/Lamps (see in pictures)
-----------------------
Softwares:
-There's a Driver, Firmware Update and "Sound Blaster Connect 2" you have to download manually from their site.
It can get annoying to re-download it on multiple PCs but it goes pretty fast.
-Inside the software you can switch between various sound settings modes that are made for specific usage
There are modes for: Gaming, Music, Movie, FPS and famous sound-sensitive games like:
CS:GO, Fortnite, COD, Overwatch, Rocket League and Dota 2
-There are also "Voice Morphing' options that are disturbingly realistic
-------------------------------------
Sound:
-It amplifies sound VERY potently, to a point I can use my headphones like Speakers (DT 990 PRO)
-It allows you to hear a TON of detail you never heard without it, the music I produced before using it sounds 5x deeper and detailed now, to a point it's boosting the confidence I have about the quality of my stuff.
-I feel like I can now master my tracks and harmony to a greater depth, I love the level of sensitivity it gives me to play around with.
-It also decreases potently the delay between pressing my midi keyboard to hearing the result, even with multiple heavy samples (Make sure that you choose "Creative Sound Blaster Asio Device" as a sound device inside your DAW)
------------------------------
Cons:
-The main material looks metallic but isn't
-The device CAN get pretty hot after few hours of usage
-The bottom of the device feels fragile and weak if you apply even minimal force on it
-There is no physical Off/On "Power button" anywhere on the card, means I cannot instantly hear my stuff without enhancements
-There is no option to change the adjustment wheel's color/color intensity (as far as I know)
-The USB it comes with is way too short for a "portable" card
-VERY VERY small letters on the Warranty information that come's inside the box
------------------------------
Tips:
*You should use a longer Mini-USB
*You WILL need to re-adjust to some of your games, this card gives you depth and intensity you never played with before
*You should find the right software/mixer settings that will fit your game-play and headphones
*You need to Manually change the Hz/Bit Value to 32bit Studio Quality on your PC's Sound Device options
*Some games/applications doesn't support 32bit, in these cases you will need to go down to 24bit 44.1hz .
(Examples I know of: Osu!, League of Legends, Borderlands The Pre-Sequel)

The sidetone on this thing is amazing. Whether it's connected by itself via USB or double amped on Xbox I get really good feedback on my voice talking. It's also great that you can adjust the sidetone on the fly with the volume wheel.
I like how there is basically no static back onto the headset. I use 150 ohm headphones and when I set the amp to high power mode I don't hear a hiss noise. I also like how the amp presets are set for 16 - 149 ohm and 150 - 600 ohm. With the previous gen G5 I didn't know what setting to use because my headphones were 150 ohm. I'm glad they clarify this now.
It does suck that there's no hardware based profile button anymore. With the G5 I used to like adding more and less bass on the fly while on console but now you have to hook it back up to a PC to adjust settings.
I don't like that USB chat doesnt work for Xbox.
There needs to he a hardware or software based voice/game volume balance for console also.
This thing is great on PC. The software let's you adjust anything you want. It even has RGB lighting for the X logo.
The new discrete X amp provides a difference. Sounds seem more separated and independent of each other. There's a whole cleaner sound to this compared to the G5.
I like how it now recognizes Dolby Digital through optical.
Despite some missing features from the G5, it adds a bunch more so it's best to compare the specs. Audio quality is way better on this in my opinion.

If you want proof of all these, you can head on over to reddit /r/ SoundBlasterOfficial and you will see many unhappy customers. Sound Blaster has not fixed their product since launch and you will have nothing but headaches with this.
Also do note for the sound quality of the G6, it's bad. Bass is super poor, everything is flat.
I promise you, if you buy this you will hate it and return it. The unit is not good, and Sound Blaster does not do anything to fix their problems. They do not listen to the community either.
EVGA now makes sound cards, which I did buy. And so far it has been AMAZING! best sound quality, £100 cheaper than the AE9 and sounds better.
Sound blaster will make attempts to ask us about our problems but when we contact them, their support are like robots, they do not reply properly, they dodge questions, and they just give us automated scripted replies.

Well let's start from constantly disconnecting - well not disconnecting from USB but it just stops playing or music or when you are in the game. It simply stops without any warening and the only way to bring it back it pull USB out and plug again. While you plug this device again - you better remove your headphones otherwise you will be welcomed but amp initialisig which is laud bang in headphones - shocking.
For 3 weeks I was trying to figure our why my videos in Chrome, Firefox or VLC will stop playing - and guess what - unplug the SB G6 and it works - magic wand (widely reported but not in any reviews just when youstart looking for it you will find loads of info). Plug back in the videos will play for 10-15min they will stop again.
(and no there is no energy saveig or anything like this enabled on my OS - this happens on all windows machine I have) MAC seems to be more stable but TBH default MAC sound adapter sounds 100x better than this premium thing.
As to the sound - oh this is such a dissapointment I have no idea how this device got any rewards, the sound randomly gives you crackling, too much bass out of nowhere even if direct input enebled without the software which I don't even want to talk about as it's a chaos.
Tested on Ikko 1, Ikko 10, HifiMan etc - also tested by professional who said the power is impressive but thats where it ends.
Sound effects in games - maybe in fast shooters they do work but on many occasions while playing games where you need to sneak upon enemies the sound of fire on the other side of the building was lauder than enemy steps or even sounds directly around you. Terrible in general and I'm so dissapointed after watching and reading all those brilliant reviews.
I will be talking to SB as this is just joke not device - and by the way yes I do have new firmware which changes nothing and I got the feeling that disconnections are more often than before.

The sound quality is excellent. Personally, I've turned off all the bells and whistles (SBX mode, Scout mode) and tried to go for direct mode, as they don't add to the experience much for me on high quality headphones. Listening to music, I get really clear sound, and it is able to deliver bass to my headphones properly (usually where most built in headphone amplifiers fall down, in my experience). When gaming, it's easy to hear the position of sounds - there's no distracting distortion or fuzzyness. On a PS4 (using optical input), and setting up Dolby 5.1 codec, virtulised surround works well and the quality is excellent (just with SBX and Scout turned off!). Though I did encounter a lot more noise than on a PC (maybe my USB power supply is to blame).
I mention this first as sound quality is, for me, the most important part of the product and what I paid the premium for. However, there's one drawback - the Sound Blaster Connect software, the drivers for Windows, and the firmware for the device itself. They're pretty dreadful, I'm afraid!
On many occasions, the volume knob on the hardware just stops working. I noted, if you turn the knob *too fast* it skips rotary encoder steps and so actually changes the volume more *slowly* the *faster* you turn it - the encoder isn't being polled quickly enough (this could be fixed with a firmware update). Sometimes, if you're changing settings like the sample rate, it'll just plain stop working entirely and you'll have to reboot your PC before it'll come good again. Sometimes the External Mic input will work fine, but the Headphone output won't. Sometimes the reverse. Mic Monitoring has too much latency to leave enabled. If you unplug the hardware and plug it back in later, you might encounter various glitches (like the volume knob no longer working, or the mic monitoring no longer working).
I really hope that over time the software will be improved, as it's a very capable bit of hardware which is being let down by the software!
