Incredible spacial audio, except when the mids dropped out

The Katana was the first speaker to ever catch me off guard and inspire *pure delight* by its spacial audio. I could actually feel the sound moving around me in ways another speaker is yet able to achieve. The bass was warm and filled all the right spaces. The lights were subtle yet just enough in solid mode. I was seriously smitten; but absolutely CRUSHED when the mids suddenly started dropping out at random, as if someone covered / muffled the speakers. This happened with both the USB and optical cables, both inside and outside of games (FFXIV in particular), and even with only Spotify playing a track with no other programs running after a fresh restart. I tried updating audio drivers (for Realtek audio on Gigabyte z390 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce motherboard), tweaked settings in Creative Sound Blaster Connect 2 software (which took AGES to load..), so many computer restarts, speaker firmware resets, working with Creative's tech support... Nothing worked consistently. The sound would restore and drop out again, at random.

Though I ended up returning the Katana, when the sound worked, it was *light years* better than Logitech g560, but I'd say a bit behind Logitech z906 - though I'm still convinced none did spacial audio as well as Katana. I'm keeping the z906 since they're more full, sound pretty fantastic, and definitely have stereo channels on lock; but those magical, dazzling 3D moments.. I really will miss you.

The attached video shows the same track when the audio worked, vs when it didn't. -1 star because for the faultiness, and +4 because I really loved it otherwise.

If you're looking for a powerful desktop speaker system that saves a ton of space on your desk, this is the perfect fit for you. The Katana fits very nicely under a monitor and doesn't force you to place your 2.1 speakers over or under your monitor or around other stuff on your desk.
This is actually my 2nd Katana I've purchased as I wanted to use one with my 4K living room TV setup.

I purchased my original Katana about a year ago and have been using it with my PC gaming setup.

The built-in audio effects are also great if you want a big upgrade from motherboard audio since it has a built-in soundcard inside the unit (the same chipset as the Z series sound cards and even the new AE5).

My recommendation is to set it to the ultra wide setting in the drivers so you get a really wide sound field out of it and to take the time to customize the software to get the perfect sound you want out of it (i've bumped up the mids a tad bit in my personal settings).

I bought this 2nd unit for the living room because it has plenty of power to fill even mid to large size rooms and looks great. It also comes with wall mounting brackets if you are doing that. Which is a bonus.

Pros:
- Sleek and minimalist look
- Lighting is subtle and customizable - adds a little bling to the desk without being over the top
- Gets CRAZY loud if you want it to
- Delivers nice tight bass with plenty of oomph - subwoofer isn't huge but packs a punch
- Same audio chipset as what's on the higher end Sound Blaster cards
- Sounds GREAT in the living room too. Dolby night mode is handy for watching without waking up the entire house.

Cons:
- Minor quibble with the remote. I wish it was a bit bigger. But it works fine. I programmed my Harmony remote to control it and love it even more.

Definitely recommend this piece of gear without hesitation.

Weak sound!! Overhyped reviews!

I bought one of these Kitana soundbars to replace a 10 year old Logitech system and used it for almost a month before ultimately returning it. Don’t consider myself a true audiophile but I do own speaker systems from brands like Bose, Klipsch & Polk Audio. The Kitana soundbar has a lot of issues and not nearly as good as all the reviews say. Starting out with its terribly optimized software (which is absolutely required if you want it to sound remotely decent!) The sound quality on this fluctuates dramatically! While in use whether it’s gaming or listening to music it could start out sounding good/full then suddenly become obnoxiously loud; then just go dinky sounding like if you were listening to a speaker inside a tin can. Every time I was listening to anything I would have to go into the equalizer and try to make it sound right. Like I mentioned before, the software is terrible and the soundbar will constantly change its volume even with the auto volume setting turned off! The subwoofer was surprisingly good for what I was expecting but it wasn’t enough to justify keeping because the bar itself is unbearable to listen to. I don’t recommend this to anyone. I can’t believe this bar is priced this much when there are so many better options like Edifier’s Luna speakers or even better Logitech’s z906. I ended up getting a pair of Klipsch R-15M speakers for my PC and I haven’t been happier!

I setup a 27" 4K monitor in my kitchen and connected to it is a cable box and a small PC - both 4K compatible. The only thing missing was sound. Since space was limited, my options were very limited. I tried a Bose soundbar but that sounded hollow when listening to Spotify from my PC. It sounded slightly better than $30 PC speakers. I then tried a rather expensive pair of PC speakers from Vanatoo and though they sounded adequate while standing in front of them, walking back 6 feet made them sound like standard computer speakers. I decided to add an ultra compact $150 powered sub and that didn't help much at all. I looked at the over $500 setup and decided that I could get the same for $30 from Logitech. I returned all and decided to try the Katana... With the available software the system sounds AWESOME! I have optical going from my cable box and then usb going from the small computer - movies and music sound perfect. The equalizer included in the software makes a huge difference and the sub gives a perfect amount of bass for our kitchen. Saving Private Ryan sounded perfect this afternoon...

I'm 1000% satisfied with this soundbar...

I've been looking for a PC speaker for a while. I use a headset most of the time and i have a good one. But i often wish i would have some good speakers to not have my headset on my head all the time. Tried many PC speakers over the years and for the most part they all sounded like crap or were good at 2.0 sound only or had good 5.1 sound with weak stereo sound and many many cables.

After watching many reviews i decided to give the Katana a try despite the price. Considering how small the speaker is i was ready to be disappointed by low quality sound coming from tin cans. Overall i must say the sound quality is nice. Obviously i still listen to music with my headset but the Katana surprised me by being a good enough stereo speaker while offering good fake surround sound in games and movies. It's surprising how loud it can get without the sound being distorted too much. I usually set it to 10/50 over that and it gets loud.

I would say though the sound quality while surprisingly y good for a speaker this size doesn't justify the price. Sound quality wise it really is a 150$ to 200$ CAD speaker. But if you add the features then the price kind of make more sense. It's a one of a kind speaker. It comes with its own sound card so you don't have to deal with on board sound card. You plug it via USB and voilà. The drivers are better than most on board sound card crappy drivers.

The LED are nice and are configurable. The speaker will also retain the LED configuration for each mode of listening. You can turn off the LED while in the night mode and have the LED displaying any light when in gaming mode and have a different setting for concert mode and the speaker will retain the different settings for each mode. It comes with a remote and all the feature are on the remote. It's also very small and doesn't take much room on the desk. Overall i would say it's worth the 300$ CAD i paid for it. It looks great, sound more than good enough and not having to deal with on board audio sound card and their outdated bad drivers is a big plus. Probably the best PC speaker i ever owned.

These speakers sound great and look amazing. However, 3 months in most of the RGB LEDs died, except for the ones on the far right side. Then 8 months later, while watching a movie, the speakers suddenly turned off and I was unable to turn them back on. Also, Creative/Soundblaster doesn't provide warranty support for Canadians directly. It's a hassle to RMA Creative products since you need to go through either the retailer/seller (if within 30 days of purchase) or a third party such as ASI if after 30 days.

El problema es que los leds no tienen nungun valor añadido. No son compatibles con ningun programa de control y no hacen ningun movimiento con la musica o el volumen. Algo que ya se hacia en los 70 con las "lamparas de lava" somos incapaces de hacerlo hoy?
Tampoco memoriza la ultima configuracion de luces que dejaste.

Pd. No son compatibles con las htc vive. Las bloquean y no se encienden... aun no se por que.

I'm using this on my X570-Plus mobo and it sounds fantastic. First thing I put on was some Grimes. Sounds good through USB but Optical is where it is at. Sound is very vibrant, you can really feel it. I didn't push volume past 40. Seems like it would just lead to damage. Even at 25 it is loud as heck. Easy bass adjustment.

If you live in an apartment complex don't piss your neighbors off with this thing lol. At night I ran it at 5-10 volume, 1 bass and it was still enjoyable in a room with a PC and fish tank.

Sleek design. It feels nice to the touch and looks great. Easy installation. I always liked Creative products and am glad I went for this sound bar.

Very decent sound but not multi-channel

Coming from a Samsung soundbar (came with TV) and the previous Creative Stage soundbar, this is definitely an upgrade. Even though this is marketed as a gaming soundbar, I'm using it as TV speakers with a listening distance of about 1.5meters.

The mids are way fuller so dialog is louder & clearer. You can actually use this for music playback and it would sound decent enough.

However, don't expect HiFi sound or "multi-channel support" to project sound to the back of your head especially if you're using this for watching TV from your sofa.

Using this as a gaming soundbar may give you a sense of surround due to the up-firing speakers but I wouldn't call it convincing.

That said, this is a really versatile speaker that can be used in all kinds of scenarios with better than average sound. And it is smaller than I expected judging from reviews and the HUGE box it came in.
