It's simplified, but not to the levels of 'stylish' in Guilty Gear,
The closest thing I can compare it to would be bayonetta,
Getting started is simple, you can string out basic combos much easier than most other fighting games, but it leaves room for higher level play
so far I'm enjoying it more than the other BlazBlue games I've played.
The story mode is a bit... odd.
I have not finished it, but it's a bit more silly, than I was expecting, (even for an ARCsys game)
But it's still fairly enjoyable.
I wish half the roster was not DLC,
I'm a little less upset as with amazon prime discounts, I got the game for around 40, so with the season pass, I think I'll be around $60 total.
But I imagine that would be a big issue for people who want to practice matchups :-/
Edit: The first DLC pack is FREE on PSN until 6/19!
You'll get: 'Trinity' from BlazBlue, 'Kanji Tatsumi' from Persona 4 Arena, and 'Orie Ballardiae' from Under Night In-Birth
And it looks like the character 'Blake' from RWBY is free DLC until further notice
The reversible cover is a nice touch, as I much prefer the JP artwork.
(This is a TAG Fighter, so why would the usa box art remove half the characters :P)
As for the mini soundtrack, it uses those awful mini CD's so I hope you have a tray fed CD drive.
The songs include:
01 Ruby Mix (BBTAG Special) 4:58
02 Weiss Mix (BBTAG Special) 5:50
03 Calamity Trigger 1:36
04 Continuum Shift 1:21
05 Chronophantasma 1:36
06 Centralfiction 1:46
07 Crossing Fate (Short Ver) 1:33
So if you were expecting songs from each game, you may be disappointed,
everything is Blazblue or rwby.
Overall so far, it's a pretty good experience,
But I'll update this review if I notice any problems.
This game plays differently than the previous blazblue games, which is nice. It's faster and less technical than Central Fiction. It doesn't have the stylish setting of CF but it really isn't necessary for newbies since the basics are easier in this release.
There is a lot of good content to play through. There are several interesting story modes and different endings for each. You can also play through as characters instead of the standard story mode.
Loading times are super fast, which is a huge plus. Music is top notch as expected.
So if you're a casual 2D fighting game fan, this is a great game to pick up. Fans of Blazblue will enjoy this game also. I also enjoy the persona 4 arena, in birth, and rwby characters. Ruby is almost a walking cheat code... they might have to nerf her a bit in later updates!
Online vs is fun. They really have a great setup in the lobbies. Online has no lag for me typically.
If you like 2D fighting games, this is a solid game that will keep one's attention for awhile.
