Reviews

Thinking about Books blog: “This is a great translation, nicely catching the rhythms of US English and developing considerable narrative drive as we quickly get into the action. The narrative is built around multiple flashbacks so we can slowly piece the key events together before and during the War… more interesting than the conventional linear novel.” Read full review.

“It’s fast paced, nonstop action, which makes ‘The Bleiberg Project’ extremely difficult to put down.” From Smeethsays.

Fresh Meat from Criminal Element: “This book kept me completely involved from the first page. The suspense is incredible because all the events take place in a matter of days. And they are action-packed days. Khara did his research and used it to weave a tale so believable you’ll find yourself shuddering because it could be happening right now. This is one of those books I wanted to end so I could know what happened, but then I went back to the first page and started reading again because I know there were details I missed.”

Library Journal: ”Khara’s thriller, with its pared-down prose, pell-mell pace, and extreme brevity, might remind some of Ian Fleming’s Bond novels or Adam Hall’s Quiller series…A quick read to be savored as a hurried snack rather than a leisurely French meal.”

“This is an excellent thriller that everyone should pick up…another great read from the team at LeFrenchBook.” From Musing of a Writer and Unabashed Francophile

From the Author

""I realized the world we live in rose up from the ashes of war, and was built on the corpses of sixty million victimes. I wanted to write about it and used entertainment to make it more bearable.""

""Hidden behind the fast-paced, action-packed, entertaining thriller lies a tribute to those who lived through the war and suffered from it.""

A fascinating novel translated from the French and immediately getting the reader's undivided attention. Jeremy Corbin is a Wall Street Trader working in a firm headed by a family friend. He is depressed and has been so for quite a while having accidentally killed a young child in an accident. He drinks to excess, smokes way too much and having made a great deal of money on one trade has little interest in his career and activities at work.
Jeremy's life is changed from one minute to the next when he learns that his father, who he has not seen in years is dead. His boss turns out not to be who he pretends to be. He is given a Nazi medallion, and put on a plane to Zurich accompanied by a beautiful CIA bodyguard and learns that his mother was killed in a suspicious accident. He also finds that an agent working for the Mossad is on his tail. The questions of why his father and mother were killed and what were they investigating are the crux of the novel. Investigations show that there is a Nazi conspiracy going back in time to the moment when Adolf Hitler was in prison due to his attempt to take over the German government. The conspiracy continues through the period of the second world war and involves events in Nazi death camps. It involves governments in its tentacles and is a plan that is almost science fiction in its scope.
A guaranteed all nighter and one to remember for a long time.

I am not sure why Authors decide to have a timeline for the story that jumps all over the place. It really does take a while for the reader to 'get into the groove of the story'. This book is no exception and while it is fairly obvious who is what from the past, it was 90% of the book before it is revealed to the reader.

Narrated in the first person, this is an excellent plot and a good story, just marred (for me) by not having a logical timeline.

Some good research into the Nazi elements of the story and I understand this is a translation from the original French? If so, the translation is seamless and you would never realise this, as the English is excellent.

Don't be put off by the first quarter of the book jumping from the 1930's to the present day and back, it all comes together as a good read.

'The Bleiberg Project' by David Kara is a mystifying thriller. It follows one mans journey, as he tries to discover who his father was and how he was connected to a Nazi conspiracy.

It's fast paced, nonstop action, which makes 'The Bleiberg Project' extremely difficult to put down. So make sure you give yourself plenty of time when you start reading it!

David Khara has a wonderful writing tone, it is like no other thriller writer, and yet it takes the best from some of the best, such as John Grisham and Clive Cussler.

The characters in 'The Bleiberg Project' are wonderfully developed. By the time you reach the end you will feel as if you know them, and that you have built a true connection with them.

I'm so glad that this is just the beginning of David Khara's 'Consortium' series. I just cannot wait to read more spellbinding action and meet some more of his fabulous characters.

If you like thrillers, you'll love 'The Bleiberg Project'. If you don't like thrillers, read 'The Bleiberg Project' and then you will like thrillers.

I definitely recommend that you read this book, when it becomes available on the 30th April 2013.

I received a ARC of this book and wasn't sure how it was going to be especially since translated from the french. I was pleasantly surprised, it was great. Something I've always wondered about , What if the Nazi's had done ___? This was one of those thrillers I couldn't put down. It had elements of surprise, twists and history all wrapped into one. If you enjoy Dan Brown or any of that genre you will certainly enjoy this.

This is a good book, starting slow it builds up pace as the author introduces the characters and gets on with the plot. Nazi experimentation is chasing city trader Jeremy Corbin's family through history to the present day where he finds an unexpected friend in a Mossad assassin who along with his CIA minder battle to stay alive. Well worth a read.

First in the Consortium thriller series revolving around a secret underground agency set on remaking the world.

My Take
This was good with a cast of characters with whom I empathized and cried for. ...I don't think I'll ever understand evil, other than that it exists.

I was conflicted over a "3" or a "4" and chose to rank it up simply because it was a treat to read---no grammatical issues to leap out and trip my eyeballs up and very nicely translated by Simon John.x

The story incorporates flashbacks---and I'm very grateful for the notice at each chapter start that tells me where I am in the story!---that flash over a range of decades from Hitler's imprisonment for the Beer Hall Putsch in 1923 to Jay's memories of his childhood.

I thought Khara was reasonably evenhanded in how he treated soldiers in the German army, pointing out that they and the German people didn't have a lot of choice with how the Jews were treated nor did he pull his punches with how most Germans thought of Jews. Yes, it was contradictory, but isn't that human nature?

It does make me wonder, if all the Germans who thought the destruction of people who were different was wrong, what if they had risen up together to protest? Instead of huddling alone with their hands over their eyes, ears, and mouths. As disgusting and horrific as it was, we really can't point fingers and say we'd never do that. Because we all have in some way. Today we're making headway on not seeing homosexuality as "catching", accepting them as individuals with the same rights as other individuals. Consider how African Americans were---and still are---treated. How about the current profiling of Arabic-looking people? And that just covers Americans! What about the stupidity in the Middle East?
