THE BLEMISHED (BLEMISHED #1)
I originally read this as part of the Shattered Worlds collection. I loved this book. It was great read, suspenseful and kind of frightening tale. I (mostly) never knew what would happen next. Makes you keep turning the pages and not want to put the book down. The characters are great and believable with strengths, flaws, love, confusion, and loyalty. Looking forward to what adventures and trials life will bring Mina and her friends next.
THE VANISHED (BLEMISHED #2)
This book starts up right where book one leaves off. Great read! Full of action/adventure, romance, friendship, family, betrayal, forgiveness, and suspense. It all keeps you turning those pages, had a hard time putting it down. Mina, Daniel, Angela, and Sebastian all made it to the safety of the Clans in Scotland (Mina's dad made it there too). They think they're finally safe and in a place that they can build a life. But maybe everything isn't really as it seems. Mina's determined (like always) to find out what's really going on in the Compound. We also get to meet several new characters, both good and bad. And Oh Man the cliffhanger ending! Definitely makes me want to jump into the next book.
THE FRACTURED: ELENA (FRACTURED #1, BLEMISHED #2.5)
For a secondary character Elena played a big part in Mina's story in The Blemished. This novella starts where Book one leaves off and follows what happens with Elena. It was nice to hear more of Elena's story. Elena a GEM who helped Mina (a Blemished) escape and now fears discover and punishment. She wants out of Area 14 so she enters a beauty pageant that if she wins she'll be sent to London.
I hope we hear more from Elena in the last (or future) book(s).
THE FRACTURED; MAGGIE (FRACTURED #2, BLEMISHED #2.5)
This book picks up where the first book (The Blemished) leaves off. Margaret Murgatroyd failed in her attempt to capture 3 Blemished (Mina, Daniel, & Angela). She now worries that her position with the GEM will be terminated. In The Blemished Mrs. Margaret Murgatroyd aka Murder-Troll is the teacher that terrorizes Mina and the other Blemished girls. In this novella through lots of memories/flash backs we get to find out how she got to where she is today and the events that led her to be the person she now is. As much as I disliked her in the first book and hate what she's doing now it was nice to get to find out more about her story and what made her this way (not that it makes her actions ok).
THE UNLEASHED (BLEMISHED #3)
Another good read. It's the final book in the Blemished series.
Also, I highly recommend reading the two Fractered novellas before reading this book. They're good (and quick) reads and will really help explain some of the events/actions in this book.
Although I'm never happy to see a series I enjoy end Dalton did a good job wrapping everything up and leaves the reader with closure. Despite that I for one would be happy to read another book or even just a novella about the characters later on to see more of what happened to them after the war.
Through the book we continue to follow Mina, Daniel, and the others as they ultimately strive to take down the GEM and give people back the choice of how they live. The characters have really grown and developed through this series. Lots of suspense and adventure that keep you reading. I also really liked how this book was written from more than one POV.
All in all I enjoyed the story, and I cried at the end, but I'm not telling you if they were happy or sad tears, that's too big of a spoiler.
The characters were thought out, along with a few little surprises. I really enjoyed the plot line, which stayed steady vs bouncing around. As you get into the series, you get multiple perspectives and thoughts on what's happening... Just really enjoyed this. I will probably look up more by the author.
