Blendtec for $250, I took the plunge. I will list the pros and cons
Powerful. Mixes veges into exquisite soup.
Heats as you blend.
Has really fantastic blades. They are DULL but do a great job. But you can't injure yourself which is a plus for me.
No tamper needed. Blentec has researched their design. You never need to push food down toward the spinning blade like you do with a Vitamix.
Has a nice smoothie setting which makes nice cold smoothies.
Very sleek. No nooks or crannies to clean.
The blender jar and lid clean themselves. Just put in a cup of water and a drop of dish soap. Turn on full. Voila! clean.
Noisy especially on high.
You have to hold on to blender on high or it jumps around.
The manual it comes with is minimalist. It has couple of recipes and no DVD. The Vitamix has a nice one.
All in all I love this blender.
The mixer jar...This I am not a fan of. The failure really looks like it's going to be the blade bearing. I've ALREADY had it squealing and making a nasty smell a few times. I do not do anything extreme for mixing with my blender either. Just ice and liquids.
