I used to manage a Smoothie King. After that, I worked in another juice bar/smoothie business. Those were high school/college jobs, but I still got a ton of experience with smoothie making and use of top tier, commercial blenders.

I though Vitamix was the end all be all of blenders. Screw Ninja with all the blades, a Vitamix can pulverize and powderize anything you throw at it with the two small blades at the bottom.

Flash forward to my first apartment after college - I had my eyes on a Vitamix but spending $3-400 just to make smoothies made absolutely zero sense financially. I was complaining about the Vitamix price tag to a friend of mine amidst a night of heavy drinking, and he asked me why I didn't just get a Ninja. I told him I thought Ninja's were dumb and gimmicky, and that nothing compares to a Vitamix. He then asked if I'd ever heard of a youtube channel called "Will It Blend?". I told him I hadn't, he quickly pulled it up, and after watching this blender turn an iPad into powder, I knew I'd found what I was looking for.

Vitamix power at half the price. You cannot go wrong with this thing. It's absurdly easy to use, absurdly easy to clean, attractive to look at, and seriously just as good as any of the commercial Vitamix's I used at Smoothie King.

Don't think twice. This is it. Blendtec > Vitamix.

I purchased this blender after seeing it on Modern Marvels. I figured if it can blend a cell phone, it can blend ice cream, which I was my goal. This works amazingly well, and I can’t imagine going back to my Nutribullet or KitchenAid blender. It can blend 6 ice cubes and a scoop of ice cream into a milkshake in 45 seconds flat. Definitely recommend!

After at least 15 years of constant use, our Vitamix broke. We had heard good things about Blendtec, and Amazon had a great price, so we went with it. I wish we had stuck with Vitamix. We are sending the Blendtec back.

We have been finding that even unfrozen fruits refuse to blend, with orange being the worst, even if I cut it in small pieces first. The pieces either stay in the corners or stay below the blades, where the blades don't touch them. This happens even though we have a Wild Side container, which is supposed to be more efficient. Just a little while ago I was trying to blend orange and banana pieces with milk, and even though I stopped and moved the pieces toward the middle over and over, they never broke up.

I see that some other reviewers have had similar problems. Others told them off and said that everyone knows you have to put liquid in the bottom first, with ANY blender, and that you have to use plenty of liquid. No. One thing we made often in the Vitamix is "ice cream" made of frozen banana and very little liquid, which took a little patience but worked fine. I also often made pesto, which involves just a little liquid.

I've tried a number of settings and combinations of speeds and blending times, and just can't get this thing to work right. Since I have lots of experience with blenders and food processors and am not an idiot, I can't figure out why so many people are happy with Blendtec and I am finding it nearly useless. But all my husband and I can think of to do at this point is to cut our losses, send this machine back and fork over the big bucks for a new Vitamix.

On the positive side, the much less dangerous blades on the Blendtec are nice-- or would be if they worked-- Vitamix uses very sharp blades that can't be removed for cleaning. The lid is also easy to put on and take off.

I was hesitant to buy this blender because of the plastic blender jar. I've always has glass in the past. I also had never heard of Blendtec brand. I love this blender because:
1. The design of the square blender jar, plus the unique scraper that comes with it, makes it very easy to get everything out of the blender.
2. The lid fits firmly in place and prevents leaks
3. The base is solid. No jumping around when blender is on high.
4. It is super easy to clean with the cleaning program but also easily rinses clean.
5. The milkshake program. Love, love, love! I use it for my protein shakes and it's great.
6. The drive and blades are metal. Super easy to seat the blender onto the base.
7. Did I mention the milkshake program?
