A beautiful story finding unconditional love in a stranger, who taught her to live her own life with no regrets.
Many readers became enchanted with Costa Rica because of author Anthony Blake's books, but in spite of his deep love for his home there, he hasn't been back in more than fifty years. But it's time to accept the fact that his daughter doesn't care about him, and to go back home where he belongs. It's time to go home to die. His hired companion Cassie has been an empty shell since her fiance died two years earlier, but she agrees to accompany him, and to stay with him until the end. In Costa Rica, surrounded by untold beauty, they both find peace and learn the true meaning of family. Sometimes, it takes a dying old man to teach a grieving young woman how to live again. How to love again. And how to follow one's heart to find home and happiness.
This is an enjoyable and heart-warming story, although a bit predictable. It could have benefited from some additional editing to eliminate some of the repetition. But all in all, it's a lovely debut novel, which I'd rate four to four and a half stars.
