What are the ancient historical origins of emotional health using The Blessing, imbuing love to shape the destiny of a child? To focus direction of the scattered? To identify and guide life pursuits strengths? To comfort and heal? Specifically how does The Blessing affect relationships with a child, a spouse, a friend a relative? Really, ladies and gents, what is more important than relationship? Really? How is The Blessing given, how is it withheld and how can we begin to greet the "C" word with an open mind, change? There are examples of me in this book and principles in Biblical characters.
Many people may not want to read some book that might mention The Deity. Put that aside just this once. This book isn't saccharine, squishy, or pushy. It's the lost practice of being a force for goodness in the world. It opens the heart.
It also enabled me to find a new way to give things of value to other people, in their time of need. I must honestly say that The Blessing is a good book, one that is enabling and gives new value to dealing with other people, both in my family, my neighborhood and other settings, like my Church and workplace.
Because I liked the book so much, I let a friend borrow it. He lent it to another friend, and now I don't know where it is or who has it. So when I saw that a new edition was out The Blessing, I just knew this is a book I want and need.
It you know you lack the blessing, reading the book may provide you with something that will lead you on a path for healing. I have found that the truth that the highly credible authors tell, is applicable in life.
Get the book, get inspired and be a greater blessing!
I am writing this review for Thomas Nelson publishers - they sent me a copy of The Blessing, by John Trent, Ph.D. and Gary Smalley.
This book was written, originally, in 1986 and has been revised and updated a few times. They just released it again and they've done an amazing job of updating it for the age of the internet.
The message of the book is the same - basically an instructional guide on how to bless the people you love. The book outlines the five ways to give a blessing:
Appropriate meaningful touch
Attaching high value
Picturing a Special future
The updated version also features a website where people can go to share with others about the concepts, read about ways to bless their children and learn more. The authors have also partnered with Focus on the Family to initiate a challenge to individuals and churches to change the lives of one million children using The Blessing as a guide.
Five stars for this one.
