Tess meanwhile is still recovering from her painful memories of William, her former fiancée, who broke off their engagement. Losing confidence, she has not painted in over a year, but her interest and inspiration is piqued by the artwork at the Inn, especially in her chamber.
Their host is Damien Reeves, a man charged by his uncle Viscount Stanworth to find the thief who has been stealing trifles from the group coming to the inn. Damien and Tess are both injured in different ways, hurting from personal loss, and they are drawn to each other - but can Tess trust that this time the attraction is real and lasting?
This is a delightful, delicate tale, full of seasonal joy and happiness. Through Tess and Damien’s eyes we experience the Regency Christmas customs of gathering greenery, making decorations, lighting the yule log, and going on sleigh rides. The spirits of the inn also play their part, teasing and healing in equal measure.
The mysteries of the ghosts and the missing trinkets are finally resolved in satisfying style, with Tess and Damien looking forward to the New Year together.
A lovely Christmas story!
Blessings and the Thief is a perfect (get in the mood) holiday story. This one gave me a new insight into previous traditions for the Christmas season. I was fascinated with the games and the dress of the day. What fun!
The atmosphere of romance and a little paranormal made me want to linger longer. It was a fast and entertaining read. The continued love story of Damien and Tess would be fascinating.
Other characters interacting with Damien and Tess at the Blackmoor Inn were engaging with their jovial moods. The ideal celebrating mix of young adults and old alike.
I recommend Blessings and the Thief without reservation. In fact this novella is on the way as a holiday gift for a few of my friends and family.
