I had a great time with this game! I've always enjoyed Taboo (which is somewhat similar in concept), but Taboo can be a little too easy/boring at times, and the cards always have the same "taboo" words on them for each word you're trying to describe, which makes for poor replay value.
In contrast, Hot Words is different every time and can get quite challenging once you start adding up some of the types of words that you can't say, especially with the highest difficulty category. For example, I had a round where I couldn't use any words with the letter "o" in them AND I couldn't use any nouns when describing my words, which made things very tricky! (That being said, you can always choose the more mild peppers if you're with younger players or don't want quite as much of a challenge.)
One potential flaw about this game is that it is NOT relaxing. Some word games like Scrabble or Bananagrams or even Taboo, while they of course require some brain power, are still fairly low-energy games. Hot Words isn't like that. Your brain will be EXHAUSTED after playing this game if you use the difficult/spicy peppers (which I love, but not everyone might!)
Very briefly, here are some pros and cons:
PROS:
- fun game for word lovers
- good replay value / different every time
- has the potential to be really challenging if you want it to be
- nice theme / aesthetically pleasing
- very affordable!
CONS:
- because of the price, some of the pieces are a little thin/flimsy (they still look fine, but I would have rather paid $20 for higher quality)
- might be too challenging for some
- requires 4+ players (though it can be modified for 2-3 players)

This is a great family all inclusive game. Made for players ages 16 and up but I think younger players who enjoy word games would be ok. You can play the easy route and pick easier round but you score less points. The object of the game is to work your way around the game board by guessing the words on the card. The harder the word the more points scored. The game comes with the game board, different jalapeno cards, 4 team tasting boards, 4 hot sauce bottles that indicate the team, 150 word cards, a sand timer, a dinner bell and a sticker sheet.The game is meant to play with at least 2 teams and up to 4 with two or more players on each. To begin each team gets a team tasting board and matching hot sauce bottle. Then you put out the jalapeno cards (mild, medium, hot) on the board. Choose a team to start then they choose a captain who will describe the word on the card to get their team to guess it. There are different rules on what can and cannot be said based on which strength of jalapeno card you pick. Again, the hotter the card the more rules their are making it harder but you score more points. The first team around the board wins.It's a really nice family alternative to playing word/card games that might be a bit more provocative or "dirty". Even though my kids are older they don't like playing those types of games with their parents so this was a great alternative for that. We really enjoyed it and it was a great way to reconnect as a family.My only ding on the game is that it isn't made with high quality materials. Plastic is cheap on the pieces but the cards are coated to prevent them from absorbing oil from snack fingers etc. Even with the less expensive plastic I still highly recommend.
