I have to say I'm not sure why my grandson loves this toy, but he does. He's played with this quite a bit since he got it for his birthday. You drop the Squinkies in, and use the claw to try and snag one just like the big machines. It isn't overly large, and is made of the typical hard plastic that I imagine will crack if someone gives it a good toss, but overall it seems pretty durable. Since you can get different Squinkies, it will probably hold some appeal until the love of Squinkies passes.

I bought this for my then two-year-old for a trip out-of-town. I was looking for something I can pack for a week stay at a hotel. My son loves crane toys, so I thought this would be great.

The problem with this toy is that it isn't a good crane toy. I will try to describe the issue, but it is hard to explain. The claw will only pick up balls in a very specific area in the container and the lever/claw combo only picks up a ball once every 4 tries, even if you have it in the right position. The crane mechanism often gets stuck and won't descend all the way. I was disappointed by this, but my son solved the problem by taking the top off the toy and pushing down on the crane thing with his hand in order to pick up the balls. I thought this would get old quickly, but he actually enjoyed doing this during the entire trip and got upset when we told him he could not take the toy out of the hotel room (for fear that he would lose all the balls).

Anyway, this is not a good crane toy, but in my experience, it was still fun. Since we travel a lot, I have a box of around 10 "travel" toys that I save for our trips. This has definitely made it into that box.

I honestly expected this to be a piece of junk that is regret getting my son for Christmas. This was the first year that we attempted squinkies since I also have a 2.5 year old and was previously worried about how small they were (I trust her now that I know she doesn't put things in her mouth).

When we took this out of the package, I was still expecting it to not work like it should. In addition to the squinkies it came with, we added more that my son got for Christmas. He just turned 7 this month and had it figured out quickly. It took maybe 5 minutes for my 2.5 year old to figure it out, but she got it as well.

The crane works 9 times out of 10 for us. Every so often the hand won't grab a squinkie, but it will on the next try. Both of my kids love it, and think it's 'so cool' that they have their own crane machine since they love to try the ones in grocery stores and arcades.

I got this for significantly less than the original cost and probably would not have bought it otherwise. With that said, now knowing how much my kids enjoy it, I'd recommend it even at full price.

I generally don't write reviews, but I gave this 5 stars. I wrote this review because this toy has kinda been getting some bad reviews. In my opinion it is great. It takes no batteries (Thank goodness!)there is no sound or bells and whistles but it is great without them and a pleasure to my ears!My son loves the claw games at the supermarket and with this toy he gets a prize almost every time and saves me money, LOL!!! I have a few tips though for optimal performance. when picking up the balls with the crane lower the crane lever really slowly, i know that will be hard for the younger kids but my three year old after a little practice managed great. If you move the lever slowly down to pick up the balls it will pick them up every time. To get the ball out of the chute drop the ball in the chute, then insert a penny and the ball will roll out. don't insert the penny first. Play on a level surface, if the surface is unlevel it will be much harder for the crane to grab the balls. Overall, I love it, as does my three year old son, and my thirteen year old daughter! It's easy enough for all of us to work even the little guy once we got it figured out, no problem. He played with it for an hour...a miracle in our house! 5 stars all the way for me.

This is a really cute toy for your Squinkies and Claw Machine lover! What a combo. Easy to operate, it actually has a working claw to maneuver around and drop the balls out of the machine. Quality plastic, not cheap item.

This is sort of like those big claw games that you see in some restaurants for the kids to play. I say sort of because this one you put the crane right on top of the prize inside then you push down and move the prize to the hole to get the prize out. FUN game for kids - keeps them occupied... They are small prizes so you do need to be near your child so they don't put them into their mouth.

This toy is well made and goes so well with my son's growing squinkie collection. The crane easily grabs the balls and then you manually drop it into the chute. Put in a coin and voila, a squinkie ball. You can display your squinkies on top of the toy. Excellent. Requires no batteries. Very well made. You can display your squinkies on top of the toy.
