Absolutely love the salt pig. Makes cooking easier with the salt pig right at your finger tips. Love it.

I looked a long time for just the right salt pig, and this was it. Although it took a while to get it (back-ordered), it was worth the wait. It is high quality and looks fantastic. I love it!

I can't believe I spent more than $10 on a vessel for my salt! I was gifted the Le Creuset salt pig several years ago and loved the design and convenience. Unfortunately I lost the container in a move. I had been admiring the Nigella Salt "Egg" but didn't think I was worthy of such an extravagant salt holder. Refusing to invest significant cash in something so trivial, I picked up a small, stainless latching canister for the countertop. It was a hassle to unlatch/latch when your hands are busy with the cooking stuff, and a spoon didn't fit inside so I'd have to leave it ajar or remove the spoon completely to latch it. Then after a few months, I noticed that the inside wall began to oxidize and there was rust all through my salt! (Must not have been real stainless) So I decided to make the investment in this beautifully-designed salt pig, and I couldn't be happier! After having a bad salt container, I can really appreciate the benefits of this pricier one.

Every time I use the salt now I get giddy.

The opening is wide enough for my lady hand to fit in (not sure why it's the "small" version. Any bigger would be too big), and the lip is low enough for a spoon to perfectly rest inside. I also picked up The Spice Lab Finely Ground Pure Himalayan Salt, 2-Pound (a real bargain for the 2-lb bag!) and the RSVP Endurance Stainless Steel Salt and Condiment Spoon, which looks and fits nicely but I'd prefer it held a larger volume of salt. I mostly use my fingers anyway.

Bottom line is that I love this salt pig- it makes cooking even more enjoyable, looks great and gets tons of compliments! So glad I bought it.

Despite it's claim to be a small salt pig...It holds at least 1 cup of Kosher salt, I have large arthritic hands and can reach inside with either measuring spoons and to get a pinch with my "impeccably clean hands" as Jacques and Julia have said. Loved the price...compares well with Henri Emile's salt pig at 1/2 the price. Until I'd actually seen these used I was afraid the salt would cake picking up moisture or worse but that doesn't seem to be the case and I think in addition to convenience I like the look of this sleek black egg.

I also looked for a long time for just the right salt pig. I wanted something large that I wouldnt have to fill often and could easily use larger portions when salting boiling water, but also wanted something styleish.

This fit the bill in both regards. It holds a large portion of salt and you can fit your entire hand in the openeing. Do NOT be fooled by the mini in the title. There is a set of smaller ones that truley ARE mini if thats what you are looking for Nigella Lawson Piglets, Cream.

I only wish she was including a nice simple wooden salt spoon WITH it! I dont want to ALWAYS have to use my hands, because sometimes they are wet. I happened to have one that I stole from another piece to use with it, but it really deserves to ship with one.

I have given it as a gift quite often since discovering them. They are always met with joy and appreciation. It really is quite a beautiful design.

I got tired of trying open my kosher salt keeper because it was a lidded jar - not that convenient when you've handled raw meats or veggies. I bought this after all the good reviews about it and it's a great salt keeper. One thing - it is, as people say, a lot larger than you might think. It really is over 6 in tall and about 4-5 in wide. I bought the black one, and it's very pretty with a great matte surface. The inside is glazed the same as the outside - I haven't found my kosher salt to be clumping in any way. Also, it holds a LOT of salt. My old keeper was tiny, so I'd reach for it, open it, and find nothing in it because I'd get lazy about filling it. This one keeps a heaping amount (one cup, at least) in easy view with an opening that's nice and big so that my hand doesn't brush against the sides (but I have very very small hands - I'm sure my fiance would beg to differ). All in all, I'm very happy with it. Don't let the "small" label fool you. It's more ostrich egg-sized than chicken-egg.

I use kosher salt for all my cooking (other than baking) and wanted a way to keep the salt handy on the counter. Regular shakers don't work since the kosher salt flakes are rather large. I used a lidded jar for a while, but I was always fumbling with the lid or losing it under the cookbook or across the kitchen. I saw something similar to this at a high-end cooking store and was intrigued.

But I was also skeptical. I live in New Orleans and really couldn't believe that one could keep salt in an open container on the counter and not have it end up like a brick. But this thing really works! I've had mine for over 2 years and the salt never cakes and is always handy for a quick pinch or a measured scoop. The opening is wide and the container holds plenty and it looks nice on the counter next to my fancy stainless-and-black pepper grinder.

Highly recommend!
