Since the game first started on mobile it has a few rough patches, it was slow at times, sometimes unresponsive, I even hate to say it frequently crashed. However Blizzard support always treated me well and was responsive in repairing the issues.
Through multiple patches/updates, downloadable content releases and new gameplay mechanics, the game is very well balanced and well rounded. After having hundreds of cards and multiple legendaries unlocked and at my disposal, deck building has become a lot more fun, and at times a challenge. You are limited to 30 cards in a deck, which is enough to have a Democrat is powerful, however not so much that it is unfair to other players. For example my murloc deck which is probably the most well rounded of all my decks, it is heavy in creatures but falls prey to control decks, such as mages, that have a lot of removal.
Overall it is well balanced, and it is nice that I don't have to have physical cards. I have spent hundreds on Magic, the Gathering, however our basement flooded and I lost all of them. All of my cards are synced up to battle.net so I never have to worry about losing or replacing them. My one complaint is not getting enough mana when disenchantment cards. It makes it challenging and worthwhile to get a legendary minion, however it is almost so painstaking you may as well just pay for cards. Keep in mind you can do just fine without rare cards, however they help at later turns, if you are just starting, get a lot of creature removal and try for a good control deck.
I would highly hearthstone to anyone, it is the most well balanced and well rounded card games on the app store, the visuals are stunning as well, it is free and worth the download.

Regarding Fireside Gatherings
I really like Hearthstone. It's a pay-to-win kind of game, but if you're happy playing with friends or staying on the bottom of the ladder, you'll probably win half of the games you play. You can purchase all of the in-game items aside from purely cosmetic items with in-game gold. It may take awhile to earn the gold, but completing the daily quests makes it possible. You can also craft any card you wish, though it will take a lot of gold to buy enough disenchantable cards to get enough arcane dust to do so. I really do like having a truly free-to-play game of such excellent quality from an renowned game developer and with such good content updates.The game is updated regularly. The solo content is fun, if not infinitely repeatable, and sometimes seemingly impossible.The one thing that I want to complain about is that you cannot join a Fireside Gathering with a Fire tablet on a FreeTime account. FreeTime manages a child's activities on the tablet for the parent, and location services are hard coded to be disabled. You cannot give the child's account permission to access location services, though you can give the child access to Hearthstone. Hearthstone requires location services for Fireside Gatherings, but only for Fireside Gatherings. As such, my negative take is only with FreeTime, because there is no way to permit access to location services on the Fire tablet for a child's account.
