Join the Color Revolutionaries to refine your skills while making a mess. The race to rescue Chroma City has just begun, and only de Blob can save the world from a black-and-white future.Gameplay: de Blob's Primary Goalde Blob is a 3D platformer where players use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo to maneuver their hero, de Blob. Equal parts amorphous blob of paint, struggling artist, revolutionary and juvenile delinquent, de Blob's goal is to replace the drab, lifeless gray coloring that the I.N.K.T. Corporation has imposed on Chroma City and its inhabitants, the Raydians, with a range of vibrant life-giving colors, all the while avoiding and battling the gray-clad forces of the Inkies. Players must acquire paint and hurl de Blob at the buildings, walls, statues, roads and skies above Chroma City. As de Blob bounces around, adding color wherever he lands, his supply of paint is depleted and he begins to dry out. As this happens players must collect more paint and rehydrate in pools and in front of hydrants scattered across the city. As the game starts access is limited to the colors red, blue and yellow, but these can be blended to create a number of other colors. Being able to create and apply these colors becomes important as Chroma City and its inhabitants come to life, and de Blob makes contact with a range of other characters known as the 'Color Revolutionaries' and receives an increasing amount of missions that charge him with splattering color all over town. Success at these mission gains the player point which drives the game forward, eventually leading to a direct assault on Comrade Black's I.N.K.T. fortress guarded by elite Inky soldiers and massive ink turrets. Key Game Features:
- de Blob - Flip, bounce and paint your way past the all-powerful I.N.K.T. Corporation to launch a revolution and save Chroma City from a future without vibrant color.
- Long Live Color! - Join the Color Revolutionaries in the resistance against the evil Comrade Black and his diabolical array of hot plates, electric shocks, and ink turrets.
- Free the Citizens - Free your friends from a black and white world by dodging ink cannons, flattening I.N.K.T. tanks and outsmarting Inky soldiers.
- Save your City - Remix Chroma City’s towering skyscrapers, expansive bridges and massive landmarks in your own style using custom paints, patterns and soundtracks.
- Make a Mess - Super-size your blob as you splash, spray, and splatter everything you touch in sprint, race and combat challenges.
- Multiplayer - Compete for control as ink levels rise and wind cannons fire in eight multiplayer-specific gameplay modes.
de Blob features both a deep story-driven singleplayer mode where players get to dig into the Raydian's struggle against all-powerful I.N.K.T. Corporation, as well as a diverse range of multiplayer options. These multiplayer campaigns support up to four players, come with street and sewer maps and include four player split-screen functionality. Just a few of the multiplayer campaigns include: Paint Match - Paint as many buildings as possible and steal points from opponents by re-painting the buildings that they've already covered. Blob on the Run - A variation of 'Capture the Flag,' in this mode only one blob can paint and is pursued by opponents who attempt to slam him into submission and gain the ability to paint and accumulate points themselves. Blob Race - In this mode buildings can only be painted once and are indicated by in-game arrow. With time limited it's a race not only to paint the town but also to keep opponents from doing the same.

The basic idea is that you are a "blob" who has the ability to absord and disperse color to your surroundings by rolling over or brushing against terrain and objects. You've been tasked with bringing color to what are initially "colorless" levels, while also completing various challenges and tasks along the way. Many of the challenges are optional, but are usually fun and quick (a minute or less typically) and will help you greatly in completing each level. The control scheme consists of using the analog stick to control the blob, and shaking the wii remote to jump. That's about it, so it's pretty easy to pick up and play.
What makes this game enjoyable is the satisfaction you get from literally "painting" your environment and seeing it continuously change in response to your actions. The game offers plenty of diversity aside from simply rolling over everything in sight as well. Various challenges will have you gathering large quantities of color to transform major buildings and landmarks, taking out enemies, running through obstacle courses and exploring new areas, among other things. As you complete challenges and bring back color to the levels, new areas will unlock allowing you to explore further. After completing each level (you don't have to do everything, just do enough to unlock the final gate leading to the exit) a new level will unlock for you to play. Each level can take anywhere from 15 to over an hour to complete.
I've read some reviews where people complained about the length of the levels and they are correct in saying that it can take over an hour to complete a level with 100% completion, without being given an opportunity to save along the way (the game only saves after you finish a level). Nevertheless, I've found that most levels can be finished in under 20 minutes if you simply are trying to get through it. As such, the time commitment is relative to how thorough you want to be, and the game can easily be completed by casual players while at the same time offering good replay value and greater challenge for more advanced players that are looking to do everything the game has to offer.
The graphics are bright and colorful, and as good as anything I've seen on the Wii. The sound effects are appropriate if not particularly noteworthy. The music consists primarily of various jazz soundtracks that to some degree correspond to your actions on the screen. In other words, when you are actively coloring areas the music will include additional notes or instruments which add to the sensation of accomplishment. It is a unique technique, and one that I admire, although I do wish that the soundtracks could be randomized for more variety (especially when doing a long level). Overall though, I like what they've done here, although if you aren't a fan of jazz you may not care for it.
Personally, I loved this game. I had bought it awhile ago based on a review and recommendation from IGN, but hadn't bothered to play it for months until I finally gave it a go. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and that it exceeded my expectations. I'm 32 years old and if I can enjoy it as much as I did, I think anyone can. I would recommend this game to players of all ages and skill levels. A word to parents -- I didn't find anything particularly objectionable about this game, so it's safe for younger kids. A word to experienced gamers -- give this game a try, although the box cover and graphics might seem childish, there is a pretty challenging and satisfying game here if you give it chance. I hope this review helps, and good luck!
De Blob is literally a blob of paint. The player paints things by simply hitting into them. Three basic colors are available - blue, yellow, and red. These can be mixed to create purple, brown, orange and green. I wish a greater variety of hues and tones could be created, but for simplicity's sake the game sticks to the basics.
As de Blob rolls around the city, he has the option of taking up various challenges - such as painting a block a specific color or gathering enough paint to free prisoners from jail. The challenges are optional for the most part, so if a player finds a challenge too difficult it can be skipped.
The game can be as difficult or easy as a player wants. Side missions include things like painting all of the billboards or trees in a given area. It can become quite challenging to complete all of the side missions. Again, that is completely up to the player.
I am very picky when it comes to the ability to control a character and de Blob is quite easy to control. Sometimes jumping can get a little annoying, but overall the game's controls work well.
I only have a couple of complaints. The first is that players can not save while in a level. I enjoy completing everything in one level at once. This can take two or more hours at a time, so I wish I could save my progress. Also, the music can get incredibly monotonous and irritating unless you love jazz. I wish players could use their own mp3's for the background music.
Overall, this game is a lot of fun and can be played by almost anyone.
