Nice wallet pitty about the RFID
on May 8, 2013
I was bought this as a present after adding it to my wishlist. The wallet looks great and I like the ID card fold. I added this to my wish list because I wanted a RFID blocking wallet. I have a credit card that has touch payment and I wanted to have a wallet that blocked that communication. Also I have a gym membership card that opens the door to the gym by touching it against the lock. So once I had the wallet I tried to get into the gym and unfortunately I was able to. The RFID block did not work. The wallet came with a piece of paper that asks me to contact the company directly before putting a review online (why would a company do that?). So I found the website and emailed them with my complaint. They did not reply. So here's the review:
The wallet is a nice wallet, it looks great and it seems to function in every way that I'd want a traditional wallet to function (if I got it just for being a wallet then I'd give it 4-5 stars!). The selling point of it being an RFID blocking wallet does not seem to be true for my wallet (loses some stars for that). Maybe I've got one from a bad batch but either way it doesn't work. So it looks good but I know that it doesn't protect my ID in the way it's sold to do.
UPDATE (15 May 2013): I have found on some occasions that I have to hold the wallet containing the entry card next to the lock for longer that I used to with a leather wallet (3 seconds rather than a fraction of a second). Other times it is as if the wallet was a normal one. So maybe it potentially weakens the signal between card and reader, but it still doesn't block it.
