About the Author
Starr Sackstein currently works at World Journalism Preparatory School in Flushing, NY as a high school English and Journalism teacher and author of Teaching Mythology Exposed: Helping Teachers Create Visionary Classroom Perspective. This year she begins a new blog with Education Week Teacher called “Work in Progress” in addition to her personal blog StarrSackstein.com where she discusses all aspects of being a teacher. Sackstein co-moderates #jerdchat and #sunchat as well as contributes to #NYedChat. This year she has made the Bammy Awards finals for Secondary High School Educator. In speaking engagements, Sackstein speaks about blogging, journalism education and BYOD, helping people see technology doesn’t have to be feared.

Sackstein leads readers through crucially important aspects of the blogging world: first, she ponders the reasons for educators to start blogging, and Sackstein does this through explaining her own beginnings on Twitter (@mssackstein) and with her blog (starrsackstein.com); second, Sackstein helps the reader understand that everyone has something to say even if he or she is not a writer because all teachers have experiences; and finally, she argues that blogging is like any other venture that we take on, and it must be done intentionally and thoughtfully.
In straightforward prose, images, and graphics, Sackstein shows readers how to set up their own blog using various platforms. Sackstein appeals to visual learners and readers through the graphics and gently guides them through the set-up process, so they can begin posting quality content. Sackstein also discusses the technical aspect of writing the blog and posting it for a specific audience. As she understands the importance of setting oneself up for success, she spends adequate time going through the technical aspects of the post, allowing readers to feel confident in their abilities to generate the first content.
Because Sackstein is an English teacher and an effective writer, it is evident that she closely considers the audience and the purpose when she crafts her work, which is then explored nicely in her book for others to follow.
