Chouteau County (Show Tow, for the authentic St. Louis pronunciation) is the fictional St. Louis area county where the richie rich live. The land of BMWs for sweet 16 parties and having the right lineage isn't just for the horses. The Chouteau County are sure the boy from the wrong side of the tracks killed young Julie. The press is ready to lynch him. But did he do it? Well you will need your own copy for that.
Elaine Viets writing is sharp and witty. She captures the lives and thinking of the upstairs/downstairs world of the St. Louis rich to a T. The adventure starts as brisk as the December wind blowing through the tale and doesn't stop until the epilogue. Regretfully Viets captures all too well the lives of the, in many times spoiled rich kids all too well. Being from the right family is everything in the world of Chouteau County, Being a decent human, isn't.
This is listed as a novella and that may be its one downfall. I was done much too soon and now must wait patiently for the next installment of Angela Richman, Death Investigator.
164 pages by Amazon reckoning.
High schoolers have sex but it isn't explicit. They do drop F bombs. They drink and do drugs. Just like their real life counterparts.
Her friends don't seem worried about her, Angela becomes involved as she tries to get her teenage friends to tell her what they know. Will she be successful? Public opinion has connected her Toonervile ex-boyfriend as her killer. Angela needs to find an answer before another death occurs
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and series.
