This is a "tell all" tale of a strange but interesting youth, being torn apart and put back together, albeit not the thread she or the reader necessarily wants or is ready for. It's more of an explanation of the journey that brought her to where she is now and far from madcap musings of life on the line.
It is an exciting story and reasoning for her being surrounded by the kitchen and the food she so much loves. I admit that at times I felt that I didn't know where she was going with what she was explaining, but it always did end up someplace and I admired her honesty the more I went on.
If you are interested in the story of the woman behind the coat this is one of the best memoirs I have ever read. If you want sauce pans filled with spite and dirty kitchen stories, look elsewhere.
