Oy vey...this book is crazy terrible. The premise drew me in but halfway through the book it got so ridiculous, which is saying a lot since I knew it was a romance between a CIA agent and a Russian princess who was in hiding and lured back to Mother Russia to save her grandmother who was a double agent during the Cold War and has been kidnapped by the current president. There were so many pieces that became bizarrely silly and I finished reading the book just to see how ridiculous it would be.

My problems with the book SPOILERS AHEAD - SERIOUSLY STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW:

1. The heroine is a 26 year old geneticist who happens to be a Russian princess AND a hemophiliac virgin. She's supposedly very smart, but spends much of the book wondering if the CIA agent really likes her...like a ridiculous amount of time wondering this. She's also keeping secrets from the CIA agent she's supposed to trust - the author mentions that she has secrets several times. As it turns out her only secret is that she has hemophilia. This gets me to the next point...

2. Russian Virgin in Distress has hemophilia and spends a lot of time thinking about her hemophilia since she was stabbed by the Head (Russian) Bad Guy early in the book. Her wound won't heal properly and she doesn't tell the CIA agent that she's bleeding throughout the story because SECRET! But at least she managed to bring her birth control pills to Russia, which she needs because she has heavy periods and she has hemophilia. At the end of the book, she gets shot in the hand and doesn't seem at all worried about it because OMG CIA man has also been shot. She doesn't tell the EMTs who have to drag her into an ambulance about her disease and she's miraculously fine after a hospital stay...

I have to start off saying that nothing makes me happier or gets me more involved in a book than a really tough, strong, believable female main character. And Anya Romanov Radzoya is absolutely that person. She doesn't wait around for someone to save her. She fights back and fights hard for her loved ones. I love Anya.

The entire story is based around Anya's lineage and her Russian past that even she doesn't necessarily know all the details too. There is mystery, action, and of course steamy romance. It is a fun, summer read. I read it at the beach, which was probably a good place since the obvious redness in my cheeks from the intense heat of the book could be blamed on the scorching sun.

President Ivanov is a great villain. He absolutely oozes evil and corruption. From his actions to the plans in his head, there is nothing redeemable about this character. Which makes it all the more fun to root for him to fail miserably. The depths that one man will go to for absolute power is terrifying.

Then there's Ryan. He's that guy. He's gorgeous, funny, a bit insecure at times, and a secret agent. How can you not fall in love with him? His admiration for Anya is endearing and when he realizes how it's turned into love, you will long for them to be together. And when they get together? Well, let's just say fireworks aren't anywhere near what goes off between them.

There are plenty of wonderful secondary characters in the book from Truman to Del and my favorite, Naomi. I want to know more about them. There's a history between a few that I'm dying to uncover.

The Blood Code is an exciting adventure with plenty of secrets along the way.

I hadn't read any of the other books in the Super Agent series, but was still able to follow along without any issue.

As far as romantic suspense, go this had some great moments, and some moments that were cheesy but still enjoyable, and moments where I felt let down. It was an overall okay read that took me a bit longer than normal to get through because it didn't capture my complete attention. I could set it down and work on other things without fretting. It's like that old late night infomercial "Just set it and forget it..."

The plot has a James Bond feel to it- CIA going undercover, handsome operative falls for the girl, lots of danger around every corner. The beginning I did enjoy, and had great expectations for Ryan and Anya...there was a lot of passion in those first few pages. Two people thrown together during a dire situation that forced them to work together. I like those stories, but this one fizzled about midway.

I found Anya and Ryan's romance cliche. There were stolen moments together that seemed forced and contrived. It didn't really happen naturally, and I was frustrated at times with the lack of build up between them. It was also heavy on the science mumbo jumbo that bore me. A lot of it seemed like something out of a sci-fi fiction, and I just wasn't wholly into it.

The villain Ivano had a crazy element to him. I'd compare his role as to that of Hitler's. He was hell bent on purifying Russia's blood lines and creating a world with a perfect race. This is where the science comes it.

Overall, good read for those people who don't mind the things mentioned above. Good triumphs over evil and all that. The writing was alright, but I'm not interested in continuing the series personally.
