I've always enjoyed Melissa's books. I usually read pretty much non stop when I get one.
This book continues Scarlett's life as the null for the Los Angeles Old World. Dashiell, the head vampire, sends her to Vegas to check out a show there which two vampires star in. When Scarlett doesn't want to go, because of family history, he sends a vampire, who disappeared.
Beatrice, Dashiell's wife, sets up a trip Scarlett can't refuse, with her sister in law and her friends. She's to go under the ruse of just going for fun, but she's really trying to figure out why vampires are disappearing in Vegas.
She finds her New York null friend Jameson is working for them, complicating things.
I'll admit that this book wasn't as compelling a read for me as the past books. There's an art to an author keeping going with a character that I'm sure is difficult. Michael Connolly and John Sanford do it very well.
The epilogue, however, is creating a whole new dimension to the series. I look forward to Scarlett 's new adventures.
