On top of that the author is very liberal: anti-gun, anti death penalty, always taking cheap shots at American society in favor of the British, anti-human (saying how humans destroyed the world and how the Earth is better of since everybody is dead), etc....pretty much how a typical European leftist thinks.
Mark then sets out along with his son Steven to England to further unify the Chatfield bloodline. The situation when they get there, the feudal conflicts they face, the dictatorial regime that exists forms the content of the rest of this enthralling book.
Will they succeed in bringing down the regime, are they able to sail away and get back to New Zealand has to be found out by reading this book!
I am now off to get the rest of the two books in this outstanding trilogy!!
It's funny, but despite the fact I found the story a little contrived and the mega sailing journeys from one side of the world to the other treated like a Sunday afternoon cruise on the Thames, it did make me want to read more, so I must admit, I stuck at it and eventually quite liked it. The concept of the lords of the manor and the "serfs" (with executions) was a bit corny, however the story behind it shone through and I could see something like that happening in those circumstances. I read it because I wanted to see how it ended and who else got beheaded!
At the end of the day it was a good yarn, maybe it could have been improved with more detailed writing, but it would have been a much longer book.

I initially got this as a free download and being obsessed with this genre of book I downloaded it immediately. Kept me up in to the early hours of the morning on several occasions and I also started fanaticising about reading it at work! Not sure why it struck so hard but really loved this book, now about to download the second to start on that.
Would definitely recommend to anyone in to this genre or anyone wanting to try it out. Kept me hooked.
