"Kept" is the story of Greta, a young, cat-shifter woman whose own tribe turn against her. Her only hope for survival is the tribe's old enemy, Dane, a dangerous sorcerer. Greta's not sure she can trust him as a savior, but she's in so position to be picky. Dane's not sure he wants to get involved, but he can't seem to turn his back on the stray that showed up at his doorstep. It's a highly enjoyable read, competently told, absolutely worthy of your time. Winters creates a paranormal world in this story, peopled with three-dimensional characters and fascinating details, that will continue to unfold.
"Claimed" picks up, not where Kept left off, but while it's still going, sweeping the reader into the story by allowing us to re-live Kept's climax through the eyes of the hero of "Claimed," the vampire Anthony. Despite the dramatic circumstances of the story's beginning, Anthony's take on events is both fresh and full of snarky humor. Until he manages to screw up royally and start the chain of unfortunate events that carry us through "Claimed."
For the heroine, this story brings back Charlotte, or Charlee, the fun and loyal best friend we met in Kept. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who wanted to know more about her and was happy to see her taking center stage in this next story.
As events unfold, Winters weaves a tangle that makes the reader wonder how the characters will ever get clear. And really, don't you love that?
Reminding us that some monsters just can't be trusted, the heroine of "Mated," Jane, is more or less sold to the Alpha of the local werewolf pack to cover an outstanding debt.Read more ›
Claimed - Charlee was too stupid to live and got on my nerves. I liked her in Kept and at the beginning of Claimed but as the book progressed, I became more and more frustrated with her character. I would have bought the HEA for her and Anthony more if she wasn't such a psychotic wench during most of the story. Honestly, if I was Anthony, I would have kicked her to the curb. I don't think vampires have the mating issue as werewolves. So why he stuck by her, I have no idea. I guess his guilt got the best of him.
Mated - We find out more about Jane who we were introduced to in Claimed. Cole is the sexy alpha male of his pack and sees Jane and immediately is drawn to her. He is her protector even though she has trust issues. Enjoyable read. I'm a werewolf girl so of course I loved this one. Out of the 3 novellas, this one had the most sex, which isn't saying much.
There isn't much smexing going on in each novella. There's chemistry between the characters, some dirty talk. It's kind of like when you're watching a TV show and the characters start kissing and then they go in to the bedroom and then the next scene is the afterglow moment. It's implied what happened but you don't see it happen. Not every book has to contain smex in graphic detail but I don't like being teased either.
Please be advised that I previously posted reviews, but because the author attacked me both on her blog and in posts here, with her "associates" banning together to lower my review rating, I chose to take the high road and remove those reviews. However, with her making a statement, as "Z", that Amazon had taken care of the "abuse," purporting that Amazon removed them, I felt that it's only fair to potential readers to maintain my opinion and viewpoint.
