I dont think I've read this author before but I have to say I was really impressed with her writing. Her story was so very interesting and intriguing and kept me reading it. I was rooting for this couple from the start. I couldn't put it down once I started it. Well...thats not true. I put it down only to pick it back up a few minutes later. :) It was very well developed and flowed right. Secondary characters were awesome too.
The book starts with Darcy burying her adopted mother. She's had a rough childhood always knowing she was different and perhaps evil if she believed others and her step-father who hated her. Things get really scary and weird quickly for Darcy. Someone tries to kill her and is saved by Axel who is a Wing Slayer. They are Witch Slayers but hunt and kill Demon Witches who cater to demons. They are protectors of Earth Witches and that happens to be Darcy. He needs her though to cure his little sisters Death Mark. Problem is Darcy doesnt know shes a witch.
The Slayers crave witch blood. Its a curse and its fought everyday by his fellow slayers. Not all slayers do though and are known as rogues and his father has been a rogue for a long time and has tried to turn Axel but he refuses. He orders Axel to kill her and thats how he even found out about Darcy. Axel leads his men in protecting the witches and he refuses to hurt her. He's got his own adgenda of course but he also craves Darcy. Once they start to bond his craving for her blood goes away. Could they be soul mirrors? Due to the curse against the Slayers and Earth Witches their souls are all split. Could they be each others?
Axel isn't the sweetest guy. He's grown up rough and he kills demon witches and rogues. He's not hearts and flowers and there were times he treated her like crap. He was a bastard through a lot of the book. He had his moments though. Thats why I had the love/hate thing for him. Hes trying to save his 4 year old sister and keep Darcy safe too. He's got trust issues in regards to witches and pretty much anything else. He's got suspicions and he sorta lets that lead him a lot.
Darcy desperately wants to help cure Hannah. She's got a lot to learn in very little time. There's a lot of pressure on her. Shes also trying to fight her attraction to Axel because of what shes been through. She doesnt feel anyone could truly accept her. There are times Axel is awesome but then times he doesnt trust her and its a problem for her as it should be. Axel's been a bastard and acts like an idiot especially at the end. Ugh men!
I really liked Darcy because she showed immense strength and her cousin Joe was her rock. He always cared for her and stood up for her when she needed it. He was a good character.
I'll tell you this book was a ride! Kept me interesting the whole time. It's not over though. Its not a cliffhanger but the story does continue. I highly recommend this read. Great book and I will be reading others.
It will be worth re-reading again at a later date! It is a keeper! This writer not only has the twists, the hope for more from the mains and supporting folks.. but it has all kinds of twists you do not expect.
Now, let me say before I forget Ithis author in either name are completely new to me. But I will be making a point of looking for more of her books!

Love this series! It's been fun doing a reread and recinencted with all my favorite characters. Axel started my Wing Slayer obsession! I'm want everyone else to read the book and understand my obsession. The Wing Slayer series is a hot paranormal romance series with protective alpha males and their witches. I'm so excited Jennifer Lyon picked up the series again and decided to self publish it. If you're a fan of the series you can tell all your friends about the re-release! They're cheaper and have all new covers. I've been gifting copies of book 1 to friends because it's only $0.99. New books are releasing as well so fans can read the stories they've been waiting for. It's awesome! I sound fangirlish in this review but it's fangirl worthy. Trust me! Go get it!
This book is so well written that I could visualize Axle's change from darkness to light, as well as Darcy's growing strength and self-confidence. All of the characters were interesting and the plot was well thought out. The only real negative is the same complaint I have with most of todays authors, they all seem to think that the more explicit sex and language, the better. They all need to learn that less is more.
