Dry Blood Orange tastes like a sweeter, more exotic version of Perrier with an orange twist. I compared it to Perrier with some SodaStream Orange Flavor Essence in it. The SodaStream flavor was less sophisticated than the Dry Blood Orange but about the same intensity. Fresh blood oranges have a distinct flavor, but when there is only a hint of it, as in this soda, it is difficult to distinguish. I could easily mistake the flavor for tangerine. Although Dry Blood Orange Soda may fare better as a mixer, I don't like it as much as other Dry Soda flavors. Blood oranges produce a delicious juice. So making a soda with just an essence of blood orange doesn't cut it. No one expects that vanilla, lavender, or juniper berry Dry Soda will be flavorful. But a lightly flavored blood orange soda is mundane and disappointing.
This could very well be the worst pop I've ever had in my life. There's no orange flavor in it whatsoever...it's literally like drinking tonic water. Couldn't possibly have been more disappointed. We bought a 4-pack of bottles, of which I drank a few sips out of one bottle, and my son drank a few sips out of another. The rest, including the other two bottles, just got dumped down the drain.
Perhaps this was a bad batch, but I have no intention of buying more to find out.
They call this one the Blood Orange flavor. I've had blood oranges and if you've had blood oranges, you love them and you wish you could get more. They're flavorful, sweet, delicious, and juicy every time. It's like a miracle. There's none of that here. If they used blood oranges in this, I mourn the loss of those noble fruits. They perished in vain. It's as if someone took a bottle of club soda and accidentally dripped a couple of drops of orange juice or some sort of citrus based juice into it. That's about all you could taste. Is it oranges? Maybe. It smells like oranges so it certainly smells good. But you don't buy soda for it's scent.
They could have something, if only their soda was more than fancy club soda.
