As a native Utahan I knew very little about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I started out with Juanita Brooks book from our library. While informative and well researched for the time and place, I had a difficult time with the layout of the book. I then purchased Will Bagley's book and upon looking at the five hundred pages was a little intimidated in the layout (it looked like a text book). I admit, once I got started I looked forward to each time I picked the book up. Mr. Bagley has done a remarkable work in his research. He has not only documented his research, but he has given a lot of the credit to Mrs. Brooks. Through my readings, I got to know her and the trials she went through to write her book. It made my heart ache to have her friends, neighbors and religious leaders turn their backs on her.. Documented history is what makes up strong. Hopefully we learn from it.
In my mind, murder is never a solution, but religious related murder has been going on since early mankind, and continues to this day.
Mr. Bagley lays out the facts and lets you decide for yourself what circumstances led to this horrible act. Well done.
