Can't wait for next book to come out. Your the next James Patterson!
Although I liked that the author used science to explain vampirism, there was nothing engaging about this novel. I didn't find myself thinking about it or wanting to turn the page.
The POVs didn't allow me to make an emotional connection with the character. It was difficult to care when characters died, got hurt, or were happy.
The Owen sisters were unlikeable, especially Marissa. The dialogue between them seemed forced. Actually, the dialogue throughout the entire novel was mediocre.
Also, some characters that seemed important to the story just dropped out, only to be explained away with one line sentences. Come'on, I just spent twenty minutes getting to know this person!
Too much information dump. Even when there was dialogue and action the characters felt the need to explain every little thing. Sometimes, it felt like I was reading a science textbook . Trying to make sense of it pulled me away from the story. A lot. (I don't mind being educated as I read, but it must be fluid and entertaining).
There was no clear understanding of the villain(s) - I'm still not sure I understand who was what. Some parts of the story were muddled and didn't fit at all.
Overall, I wanted to like this novel but I couldn't get into it. Most times it felt like a VERY detailed outline that might turn into a readable novel. I will say however that the writing was very polished and there were almost no grammatical errors.
I will admit that during the reading, I got a little lost with the scientific talk however I understood that the information was very important to the story and that it would hopefully answer some questions. I think there was a lot of things that happened throughout the story but they all flowed together perfectly and you knew that they were all happening for a reason. I have read other reviews where they think it was too much going on but I have to agree, it kept me interested wanting to know what the poor girls would have to endure next.
I love the dynamic of the girls, how they understood each others strengths and figured out how to use them during the strange events that take place. The events are life altering for the girls but I love how they handled each event and I definitely look forward to seeing where the story goes from here in the next book.
