My Review

When I read the synopsis for Blood singers I was immediately intrigued. It seemed like a different spin on your typical vampire, werewolf fare. Plus, I am an admirer of Ms. Blodgett's writing. Thus, I was pretty stoked to sink my teeth into a different series written by her.

Julia and Jason were high school sweethearts. After graduation they sneak off to Vegas and elope. They return to their home town in Alaska when Julia is immediatly met with the terrible tragedy of Jason's violent death. Dang!... Talk about ruining the honeymoon.

The main protagonist Julia, is a blood singer and her blood calls out too every vampire, werewolf as well as other blood singers out there. Her blood is "extra special", Rare, as it contains something magical that can be used by each of the varying species in order for them to gain something they lack. An example, for vampires, its the ability to walk in the daylight.

We soon find out Julia is wanted by every creature that goes bump in the night. She is kidnapped, held captive and always on the verge of completing some crazy ritual that would bind her to that particular breed of creature. And right when that's about to go down some other faction swoops in to takes her away. It did get kind of funny that everybody wanted Julia. But, I quickly picked up on the tongue and cheek humor from Ms. Blodgett when she wrote, " Was it vampire? Were? What the hell...trolls? Could there be more mythological creatures springing to life to kidnap her...." Yeah, after I read that, I was assured of the author's awareness that this was getting a little ridiculous-even for our heroine.

I will admit, I had a difficult time getting into the groove of this book for the first couple of chapters. There are many POV's and quick scene changes within a given chapter, making it a little hard to follow...at first. However, once I found the tempo and rhythm the author had set forth I was immediately captivated and found that I enjoyed this style of writing.

With all that said, the book ended with a gnarly cliffhanger leaving me frantically swiping my finger over my phone in desperate hopes of there being another chapter. Heck, even another page! But, sadly no, and Ms. Blodgett just left me hangin'.

Overall, I give Blood Singers a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I have the second book Blood Song all queued up and ready to read. I am curious to see who will end up with the coveted Julia and her Rare blood.

To make her loss even more acute, she is thrust into a world where Vampires and Weres' exist.
And each group needs something from her.... Blood . Her blood is not just that. It's uncommon and infrequent.
Each society wants it, and she's left making a hundred-to-one choice. All the while trudging through her new life as the Chosen....
If there is one thing that I've come to learn while reading Ms.Blodgett's novels is that you can NEVER assume who the leading love interest is.
I love a good love triangle as much as the next person. And, normally I can pin point who the MC is going to end up with.
I can never take the easy route with ANY of her novels!
She knocked me off my feet when I read her Savage Blood series. And she did it again with Blood Song!
She has this impressive ability of making you fall for the guy you THINK you should hate. The one you least expect!!

Now this leads me up to the Romance ...(Ah! there's the good stuff!)
I classify it as New Adult. It's not descriptive. YET.... (This is a good yet!) at the time, it is. It's descriptive with emotions, and intensity.
YOU want to BE the girl that is getting romanced by the massive hunk of a dude.
I'm not even going to go THERE with the males.. If I did, I'd bust out my graphical chart of who's more gorgeous than the next.. Then I'd get so frustrated I'd walk away because I can't tell you which male is more freakishly good looking!!!... They're all so great!!!
I know who my acclamation's for, and i'll leave it at that. But come on. Tamara could have Julia bounce back and forth between all of the guys and I'd be okay with it.

Vampire stories have been turned over, and re-used throughout the past few years that you can't even tell the difference between most plots...
Blood Song brings a unique twist to the genre that I completely wolfed down...

It's a MUST READ!

Well, let me say first; this is one of best paranormal books that I have read in a long time. So glad that I downloaded this series. I hope in the book Julia will come into her full powers. Kinda tired of reading about her constant kidnappings, lol. Overall it's well written and a different take on the vamps and wolves. I didn't to much care for the going back and forth early on in the chapters before the abduction, I was like, get to the point already. Some chapters to me dragged out to much but, still worthy of 5 stars. Unique imagination on the authors behalf, well done.

I downloaded this book back in March 2013 and I've absolutely no idea why it's taken me so long to actually get round to reading it.
This is a surprising book even after reading the reviews it was so much more than I expected, it takes a bit of getting used to since it has multi person POV and past and present but once you settle in it's great.
I personally like a book where you get different POV it gives a better understanding of the characters and in this book I think it's essential especially because if we were only getting Julia's POV we wouldn't get the full picture since she's blinded by grief and angry for huge sections.
On the whole I loved this book, there were a couple of things I didn't like I'll be honest and admit that Julia got my nerves a bit a lot of her decisions didn't make sense and she has a habit of deliberately running head first towards danger but then she's young and she's been through so much, but between her running and her being kidnapped it's a bit like ping pong.
Plot wise there was something I just don't get even though it was explained away I'm still not sure I understand the reasoning behind it I didn't want this to be a spoiler review but it's bugging me, it's not a huge spoiler but I'm going to add it at the bottom.
In conclusion this is a book to lose yourself it, it's so much more than I expected and yes it does have a cliffhanger ending but I was prepared for it since I've already downloaded the second book, it's the surprise cliffhangers that get me.

####### SPOILER QUESTION ########
If Singers are in such short supply and desperately needed why kill two of them, even if it's seen as a waste them being together surely it's better than them not being here at all and the children they have are Singers so why stop them having future children after all it's more Singers which is what they want, isn't it, if it's because too many together are seen as dangerous and a family unit would be too strong then they've shown they're not adverse to kidnapping. Maybe it's me but I just can't get my head around it.

I didn't like how this book was put together it was so frustrating having all the different point of views, I don't usually mind that but with this book it felt so contrived.
I felt that this book has potential but the author got so carried away with so many different characters it was a mess and the story suffered as a result. Julie was pulled in so many different directions I felt sorry for her and I don't know I felt that hindered her development she never really got her moment because one of her many many many suitors would barge in and steal her away. I mean what's with all the guys it was excessive and annoying.
I think I might read the sequel to see if it develops but if it stays the same as this I won't be finishing this series.

I surprised myself with this book. Usually I download these fantasy books involving vampires and werewolves when they appear for free on Amazon, and read them in around 30 minutes. This book was completely different - it had an original story, creative and believable characters, and a good writing style which flowed well. It's not perfect - there are a couple of small errors and in a literary sense it could use a lot of work (sentence structure etc), but it has great potential, and these issues are barely noticeable. It moved me, which is very unusual for these types of novels. It made me sad, it made me laugh, it made me angry, and the author does a very good job at making you see the story from the points of view of different characters, giving you a deeper insight into their motivation and thought process. I highly recommend this book, and am eagerly awaiting the next instalment - and this is a first for me, as I haven't yet come across another book which has hooked me enough to pay for the follow up to it. Excellent read, and a decent length.

I got this book because it was free, and I was anticipating a good read ....until the main character kept getting kidnapped, kept fainting and generally had all sorts lusting after her whilst she behaved like a spoiled and weak child. It was really disappointing as the story had so much promise after its slow start. Whilst the actual story was not to my liking there was no denying that it was well written and very descriptive.
