What makes this book outstanding is the author’s ability to take very scientific information and break it down into the key components that people need to know and present it in a simple way that everyone can understand.
Not only does the author do an outstanding job of describing why everyone should care about their blood sugar, but she also provides an easy to understand strategy whereby everyone can manage their own blood sugars and avoid all of the health problems associated with high blood sugars.
The book starts of with a really good description of what normal blood sugar is and how normal people metabolize food. I’ve never seen a better description in plain language that you can understand.
Next there is a great discussion regarding how diabetes develops in certain people over time. The author makes really interesting points and backs them up with research studies:
* Your genetic heritage has a greater influence on if you will develop diabetes than what you eat
* Most people have blood sugar issues that cause them to be fat rather than the other way around.
Rather than propose a strict diet, the author gives you the information you need to determine what foods you should be eating and how much you should be eating.
