Continued from book 2:

Following the destruction of the City of Glass through an explosion of sonorics, huge numbers of refugees have descended upon the Chevakian capital Tiverius.
The refugees are mostly members of the rebel group Brotherhood of the Light, supporters of the old royal family. They are injured, scared and hungry, and few speak Chevakian. The young Queen Jevaithi and her lover Isandor are amongst them, safe from the Eagle Knights for now.
Young Eagle Knight Carro is waiting in an old farmhouse with his fellow Knights for the order to invade the camp, capture the Queen and deliver her back to his father, where she will continue to live as imprisoned puppet for the Knights' tyranny.
The Chevakians know none of this, and struggle to contain the refugee population, and the dangerous sonorics contamination the people have brought from their ravaged country, contamination that defies Chevakian efforts to contain it, and is getting worse, not better.
In their struggle for power, the Brotherhood and the Knights disturbed something from an ancient and magic civilisation.
The sorcerer Tandor knows what happened, but he is on death row in a Chevakian jail.
The southern woman Loriane is aware of the things that are required, but she is amongst Chevakians who can't understand her.
The Chevakian proctor Sadorius han Chevonian could put the pieces of the puzzle together, but he is struggling to keep the peace, and besides, Chevakians don't believe in magic.
Meanwhile, the massive, and malevolent, sonorics cloud drifts towards the city, hungry for revenge.

Maybe 3½ stars. This volume of the trilogy was interesting and for the most part moved right along. However, to get here required reading the first two volumes. In the first, nothing happened for the first three quarters of the book. Second one was better. It only took until two thirds of the way through the book before something happened. Rest was filled with repetitious, slow moving "stuff". Author seemed a bit consumed with reproduction and the various deviations from the normal process. I found the ending a bit of a letdown. Almost seemed to be more about setting the stage for a follow-on trilogy (aargh!) than an actual ending.

Having enjoyed the first, and seen the second as more of a connecting novel, I was willing to commit to the third, and thus the trilogy. In the main, I enjoyed both this final novel and the series. Interesting characters and motivations built around an interesting set of premises. However, there were a few issues that I wish had been dealt with: the origins of the heart and the city; the gestation and function of the dacon; the reason for Carro's flashbacks. Sometimes, I thought the action was a bit rushed and could have benefited from a more detailed or leisurely telling.

All in all, though, I enjoyed the series and will read the next set in a few months time.

Well I have got this far, and credit to the book, in that I read the Trilogy without breaking for another book between episodes.
I stayed with the 5 star, because the story stayed pretty true to it self, and don't lose it's pace.
I was starting to worry that the heart transplant from book one, was in danger of not being a story tool, but hey, right there at the end it proved it's worth.
Thankfully the end came at the conclusion of the main story line, and we were not presented with chapters worth of skull numbing detail concerning the fate of every character who was a part of the story.
So all in all, three decent books, making one good story.

This series of books is excellent. The story, although not completely original, is well written and highly enjoyable. Characters are well defined and you grow to care for them (well....some of them!)
The only problem I found could have been completely down to how the books were downloaded for kindle......words misspelled, some words out of context (either added or removed) which occasionally left you trying to work out exactly what was meant.
Again, I am positive this was down to the way the books were transcribed to Kindle.
Highly recommended for any fantasy story fan.
