I am really loving this series. In this book, Sloane and Dex are getting more involved, although Sloane doesn't really know what to do with that. He's still hurting after Gabe's death and doesn't really want to put himself in the position of the possibility of that kind of hurt again.
On the one hand this book is beautiful, because the two are growing closer. But on the other hand, it's painful because as the reader you can see that if they continue on this trajectory they are both going to be desperately hurt. It's a great balance that the author has developed and it definitely kept me at the edge of my seat. I love both these guys and can see just how incredible they are going to be together once they finally commit to that, but they have so much baggage standing in the way...well, really Sloane does...and that's definitely overflowing onto Dex.
There are several scenes in this book pertaining to Gabe and my heart just absolutely broke for Dex. He's such a good, sweet guy, so he handles it all incredibly well, but that doesn't change the pain that he is feeling. For this angst-loving reader, I love that, but it's still painful.
I also really, really loved the side stories of the brothers...both Cael and then the issues going on with Calvin and Hobbes. These books have an incredibly rich and versatile cast of characters and I love them all with their idiosyncrasies...yes, even Ash.
Everything about these books are good. They are filled with emotion, a wonderfully rich cast of characters, a romance I can cheer and hope for, great suspenseful scenes, and an overall message that I love. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in book #3.
Anyway, like I said I just finished and was left with an overwhelming feeling of 'hot damn I'm so happy I found these books' 😝
Love this series. It has it all.
It's action packed.
Tells an interesting, gripping story.
Presents deep, dark, lovable characters (yes, even Ash)
Love, and the right kind too... not insta-love which fits some stories but not this one.
Laughs. And I do mean laughs. I actually laughed out loud while reading. More than once and that doesn't happen to me often, not even with books that are supposed to be funny. But there's no way in hell to resist Dex.
You gotta love him. He makes everything and everyone better. Every time.
He's smart, relentless, sweet, geeky, funny as all hell and right down adorable!
All in all the story is awesome and Charlie tells it just right.
You need to read this.
I myself can't wait to start the next book! And then the next and for the love of all that's pure and Holy, keep them coming!
Oh and read somewhere that it's not quite believable that all the characters are gay... c'mon.
To be honest it hadn't even occur to me to factor that in at all, but I thought about it since cause it kinda bother me somehow.
I mean, take your band of badasses brothers of choice. You know: The A-team, The Mercenaries, Die Hard, The Losers, The Fellowship of the Ring... you get the idea. Why doesn't it bother anyone that all of these ppl and/or members of a team of badasses are all straight?
Cause it sure doesn't bother me. Either way.
