Jeremy is rescued from the tunnel, and spends the summer in the hospital recovering. But soon realizes that he can sense heartbeats from a distance, feel sap moving in trees. Best of all, he can gather energy from every living thing, which gives him unnatural and sometime uncontrollable powers.
His mother and sister are frightened by this as he struggles for their affection. Soon the CIA hears of the news and starts asking questions, as do mysterious people who are still alive from the original experiments. Jeremy doesn’t know who to trust.

The story jumps back and forth, always tossing you a tidbit of excitement that entices you to read on in order to find out what lays behind the source of his powers and how he will overcome the opposing forces attacking him.
The plot was well thought out. Strong and riveting. I would highly recommend Blood Tithe but be forewarned, you will not be able to set it down and when you finish, you will run to grab another one of Glenn's books to see how the rest of the story unfolds.
Grab a bowl of popcorn, curl up in one of your favorite reading chairs and enjoy this supurbly written story.
The tale moves repeatedly from Jeremy's present to his past and back again. Mostly I enjoyed the switching to past and present but I found (only twice) it to be a little frustrating in the faster moving sections, as well as at times when the switch wasn't as clear as it could be. To be honest I'm not fond of a lot of backstory interlaced within a novel, but I feel Glenn pulls this off nicely because he works to show his story through the eyes of Jeremy and not just tell the readers as a narrator. Well done!
The ebbs and flows of the story are consistent throughout the book and the pace speeds up nicely in most places. I would have liked just a little slower pace three quarters of the way through, perhaps a bit more of Jessica and Jeremy to show how their relationship deepens as well as giving Jeremy a small 'break' in his life. I wanted to feel more for Jessica at this point as she entered Jeremy's life. This would give me, as a reader some 'rest' and for me, make the ending so much better. However, this is just my opinion and I still had to read it almost non-stop.
The scenes were well written and I felt grounded as a reader, in that I had a sense of time and space. There were a few typos in the book, almost always with ebooks though, but not enough for me to stop reading or even stall in my enjoyment of the story.
Lastly, I feel Glenn successfully wrote this first book through the eyes of a young boy and teenager. That is much harder than it seems when you are an adult. As adults it is easy to include our 'adult wisdom' but Glenn has really done an excellent job giving Jeremy life and making the story readable by adults. It was so easy to read from Jeremy's perspective and yet see all the adult nuances behind everything that happens to Jeremy and the motivations of secondary characters in how they interact with him.
Overall, I feel this book is great value for money!
I have bought the next book in the series and will look at his other work The Soul Collector series.

The author did a fantastic job of catching the mindset and adventurous/never-say-die personality of most young boys (I was no different. Lol). I found myself smiling at some of his mannerisms and phrases toward his sister or being told not to do something. I feel I have to point out I outright LOVED his interaction with his sister. It was both heartbreaking and pleasant.
I do have to admit I was hoping for more of an interaction with the Howler. While his and Jeremy’s stories were interwoven in an interesting and thoughtful way, I really wanted to see the two together more. I would say more, but I fear that’ll give away spoilers.
The lone complaint I have is the book ended with an obvious hook, but that’s to be expected with a series, so I’ll just have to grab the rest of the books to answer my questions.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author.

Before Jeremy falls into a tunnel of mysterious acid, he and best friend Sammy spend hours at the river daring blood-sucking leeches to latch on to their toes. After surviving his plunge into corrosive liquid, Jeremy becomes a “freak,” an easy target for the school bully. He also develops strange powers.
His mother and sister grow increasingly afraid of Jeremy and withdraw from him. The boy who loves climbing trees, fishing, and playing catch with his dad harbors a dark secret capable of destroying his entire family. The more he seeks to deny his special abilities and win back the love of his family, the more danger he inadvertently causes them.
Because compassion beats within his young heart, Jeremy releases an old man from a forgotten prison cell. The “Howler,” as Jeremy calls him, proves more monster than man. Somehow, Jeremy survives his encounter with the heartless, soul-less enemy.
Now a teen and in love for the first time, Jeremy’s life finally seems upbeat and complete. Until the Howler returns.
The characters remain true to type and painfully real from the beginning to the end. Action never falters and terror lurks on every page. “Blood Tithe,” simply put, is brilliant. It is full of unexpected twists including a life truth that even the Howler never saw coming.

In a fast paced opening sequence we meet Jeremy Davis high in the girders of an unfinished building and quickly realise that he has supernatural abilities, though clearly he is not immortal as he heads for hospital emergency unit after being shot!
Fans of Dean Koontz will love this author.
As a young child Jeremy fell through an old tunnel on a disused air-force base, into a chemical concoction that caused his skin to be rejected and his DNA to be altered. Against the odds he recovered but gradually became aware that he had abilities and powers that he needed to learn to control.
The setting is plausible, an air-force base closing, as the cold war draws to an end with an apparently unused, but guarded area with more than old chemicals locked away there!
The author successfully engages the reader's attention with subtle changes of pace, mysterious, pursuers who are involved in the original chemical experiments and government agencies apparently determined to keep the secrets of what went on at the base during WWII. The conspiracy theme keeps everyone guessing while providing plenty of drama. An atmosphere of menace and tension is aided by the threats and blackmail of 'the Howler'. He forces Jeremy to help him and remains a mystery and an enigma, having, it seems been entombed alive since the 1940s!
If you like science fiction/horror then this comes recommended for you.

Jeremy develops "powers" which he is unable to control to the point where his mother and sister are afraid of him. He has a hard time at school, mainly from Todd, the school bully. Then there is the "Howler" who makes his life very difficult by inducing pain, fear for himself and his loved ones through blackmail.
I like the way, the author alternates between a young and mischievous five year old, and the teenage Jeremy. It is so well written that everything falls perfectly into place.
This story is action packed and full of twists and turns that to me there isn't a dull moment. It would appeal to readers of all ages who like fiction and adventure.

It is not what I would call a quick read, since I needed a break from it at times just to digest what had happened.
Basically, a young boy (5) accidentally falls into a pit and is exposed to something which makes him "special". The author switches between present and past with ease, giving you the full picture gradually. At times, I found this too slow and wanted to know more about the present, but since this is a series I can see that he is merely setting the scene for later books. The plot is clever, the characters are well developed, and everything is in place for the continuation. I have many questions and would love to see this on TV! Dash is probably the character that most intrigues me...
I would liken this book to the first few episodes of a TV SciFi series. I liked the premise, and thought Jeremy was a great main character.
Overall, a great start to a SciFi series...

This captivating and brilliantly written novel takes you on a journey fraught with danger, full of emotional turmoil, characters both good and evil and a tension fuelled ride that is fast paced and action packed. A real page turner!
Once started, this novel is very hard to put down and I now look forward to reading Glenn's sequel and to finding out the next chapter in Jeremy's extraordinary yet complicated life.
Blood Tithe comes highly recommended.
