From the Author

WarningContains heavy doses of snark, a sexually confident heroine who likes killing people and has no secret heart of gold, lots of explosions, and very naughty language.

Also, some terrible stuff happens to expensive formal wear. I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry.

Bloodlines also includes the short story Thrall, narrated by fan-favourite character sexy warlock Nate O'Connor.

Zara, a high class thief turned hit woman, goes to visit her friend and rogue witch Mishka for her next contract, or assignment. The warlock leader of a rivaling coven to Mishka's parents' coven. Even though the pay is less, a lot less, than she wants she is talked into the job for the spoils Sean O'Connor has in his home AND for the bounty on his son as well. In the process of the job Zara learns some interesting information and goes back to Mishka for answers. Only to find there is more trouble lurking in the shadows, and there are those after the powerful witch covens and vampires too. Death and 'napping is at an all high for both groups. Zara gets pulled into the mix while protecting herself, then to protect others as well.

I really enjoyed the writing style here in this book. The way the picture is drawn with the character and the surroundings used with each other to see. The comparisons used and metaphors to help get the feel across to us. The story kept moving forward, even when I thought the worst has happened the world opens up to a new level of bad for the characters. Always moving forward with the action and happenings, to then bring you to the end that works out... for almost everyone.

Quickly in the first chapter I got pulled into the world and meet Zara, which had me liking her off the bat. The way the story is worded has me on Zara's side with her vamping ways, and agreeing with her on her pick in victims. Zara has a snarky humor and loves her clothes. What girl doesn't, right? But, as Zara can at times come across self-centered, I still got the feel there was more to her as to why she acted this way. And boy did I learn more about her. Even in the end Zara had me worried and scared. But I enjoyed where Skyla took the story.

'A woman of distinguished courage or ability'. That's the encyclopedia's definition of 'Heroine'.
And boy does Zara Lain live up to that description!

It took me a while to get around to reading this book, but wow I'm so glad I did!!
It's a great story, but many stories are.
That's not what makes me so enamored with this novel.

Zara Lain Is what makes this singular!!

What a great character!!

Selfish to a fault, and unapologetic about it.
She makes this story feel like what a real 300 year old Vampire would actually be like!

She's no fictional cliche!

No goodie goodie here.
She's not out to redeem herself.
Prove her worth.
Avenge the wronged.
Find love.
Save the World from Evil!

Or any of the.... Blah Blah Blah!!
That usually accompanies any story about a long lived female Vampire.

This was sooo refreshing. I can't wait to read more!

I've never read a vampire book before. The only reason I picked up this one was because it was on the Kindle free book list and has excellent ratings. This book is well written. The characters are well done. The plot is excellent with plenty of twists and turns. The action is close to non-stop. Once I got past the first couple of pages, I couldn't stop reading. I actually took a personal day off work to finish.

To be truthful, it is not at all like the vampire movies or TV shows. To me, it seemed more like one mod trying to take over a city from the other mobs, but in a sci-fi setting with different races and beings with different powers. It's a rock'em, sock'em great read with a sassy female vampire as the central character. I loved every bit of it and I'm buying the rest of the series.

Vampires behaving like vampires. Now there's a thought.

BLOODLINES is a snarky and bloody trip into the life of Zara the crazy, emotionally damaged, and way too snarky for her own good (my name for her). God, I loved her. Think Buffy as a vampire. Have teeth, will kick ass.

If blood, swearing, and snark offends you, pass on this book. There's plenty of all three. Yet, I never felt that any was out of place. It was always honest. And perhaps that's what set this book apart from most urban fantasies featuring a female main character: it was honest to a fault. There was no going easy on the readers; everything was to character for Zara. Everything. It's rare for a book to be that honest.

This writer was recommended to me by Krista D. Ball (whom I also love) and I am so happy I got this recommendation. I'm on the 3rd book in the series and I'm afraid of running out already. If you like SM Reine, I think you'll like Ms. Cameron's books too, they are rip-roaring reads, humorous sometimes, entertaining always...managing to be dark and edgy without being depressing at all.

I wasn't keen on the idea of a different main character for each book but I'm a total convert now. There's still plenty of Zara Lain in each book, which was my main worry. Keep them coming Skyla Dawn Cameron. Everything exciting I've read lately on my Kindle is coming out of Canada, there is a lot of writing talent there obviously!

Wow. It kicked booty, and then brought the romance, and then kicked booty, and then it made my jaw drop, and then made me laugh out loud, and then kicked some more booty. The End.
I bought this book because I enjoyed River, Cameron's first book. I liked her clever take on the werewolf genre. I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. I don't read a lot of vampire stuff, but I do like a good action novel. First of all, as much as I enjoyed River and really liked her writing style, Cameron has definitely grown as an author and it shows here. Her fight scenes were well written. I could follow along, feel the danger and excitement, but not get bogged down in the details of the fight. The romance scenes were hot without veering into the cliche. One Nathan to go, please. And the plot moved along at a pace just shy of sprint - perfect for a smart action story.
I did not see the final plot twist coming - well, I didn't most of them coming (huge compliment) - but that last one was perfection. I can't wait for the sequel.
