I was determined to try and enjoy the game even after reading complaints about it online all day but when I got home and tried to play my copy I immediately found an even bigger problem than all the performance issues everyone has been complaining about, you can’t play the game without internet. When I try to start the game I get a message telling me to link my console to a Nintendo account and all I can do is link an account, view info about linking an account, or Cancel (which takes you back to the profile select screen). The cartridge is totally useless if you haven’t and don’t want to hook your Switch up to the internet.
They had all these years to develop the game and this is the garbage they came out with. The box doesn’t even say internet and an account are required, only that they are required for online play; nothing about not even being able to get to the title screen (or the load screens that likely appear before the title screen…) without them. I’d have given this 0 stars if that were an option.

I have been waiting so long for this game. And it finally arrived only for me to not be able to play it. It asks me to link my account to even play it. For one, I don't want anything to do with online or linking any account. I just want to put the game in my Switch and play it. It says nowhere on the box that online is required. The whole point of buying a game like this physical is to be able to play it without being a slave to online. Very dissapointed.

The problems with this is that the major issues are seen right from the get-go. They should have never released this game like this. They saw the problems and still put it on physical cart. Shame on them. Iga has been in this business a very long time, he should know better.

I miss the days that a game was tested thoroughly before it was released. When you got a game that you could play through. Nowadays devs don't care. They push out shoddy games amd fall back on patching it later.

Just take the extra time to test the games please!

Loaded the game up and the visuals were terrible, night and day from pc and other console appearances. All of the characters just look like models with textures painted on from a PS2 game.

This is a great Metroidvania game, but this Switch port is sub par at best. It has been downgraded to 30fps and much lower resolution. There is noticeable input lag and frame drops even with these downgrades. It's a shame because the Switch is the perfect platform for this game. I suggest buying this game for another platform if you can.

Would really like to return this game but I’m in sure that I can do that since I’ve already opened it. Looks worse when you compare it to other versions of the game, they should’ve delayed this until they could optimize for the switch, buggy and ugly.
I like what’s here, just not in this console ;(

Crashed my Switch, save data deleted--unacceptable

I was really hoping I could pop this in my Switch, try it for myself and say "it's not so bad". But nope. It's bad.

About 15-20 minutes into the game, (still on the ship), after beating a knight enemy my Switch crashed. That has never happened to me ever before. Black screen, then a message popped up that said something to the effect of "the game needed to close, would you like to share this error?"

And then I said "Wow. Um... I guess I'll try it again?" Booted up the game again, and all my progress I made so far was gone. And yes, I did indeed use the "suspend/save" feature before the game crashed. It sent me back to the beginning. Level one, no items, talking to Johannes again.

This is unacceptable. Why did this make my Switch crash? It's just a 2.5D metroidvania. If other studios can get games like Doom, Wolfenstein II, and Warframe running on Switch, this should be a walk in the park.

The funny thing is, for the few minutes I was able to play, it worked pretty well. I didn't experience any input lag except for maybe one or two stutters that only lasted a millisecond. And sure the game didn't look as good as the other platforms it's available on, but I didn't think the resolution was a deal breaker at all.

But the fact that it just shut down and crashed... I really hope the developers fix this.
Cause they seem like good people. Especially Igarashi.

I would very much like to be able to come back and update this review to reflect the content of the game, one day. But I can't even play the game, given the state of the product I received. So I must say: do not buy. Either get this game on some other platform, or wait until word arrives that the game has been fixed by the developer.

Fantastic game. Large patch for day 1 of launch, but fixes a lot of stability issues. However, for physical release, I hate it when there’s nothing in the box save for the cartridge. At least throw an art insert in there. A manual would have been fantastic. Anyway, totally worth it either way. Well done!

Llevo esperando 4 años como mucha gente, primero para Vita cancelado, luego Wii U cancelado también, finalmente llega a Switch día 1 y me llevo la sorpresa de que el juego es una PORQUERÍA llena de LAGS, se ve HORRIBLE, el Hollow Knight se lo lleva de calle y en físico. NO TIENE booklets, ni arte interno, ni un papel, ni las gracias... Terrible que Koji hizo otro MN9, espero lo arregle xq yo voy a devolver el juego y mejor me compro otro. Es la primera ocasión que me ocurre algo así y soy muy tolerante con los malos juegos. Les aconsejo que NO LO COMPREN EN SWITCH.

Yo tengo ps4 y switch, y esperé para comprar la versión de switch porque es mi consola favorita.
Lamentablemente la versión del juego del switch está EXTREMADAMENTE quebrada:

· El juego se crashea de pronto
· La respuesta es muy lenta desde que presionas un botón hasta que sucede la acción en pantalla ( básicamente "se tarda" en responder)
· No tiene efectos (como sobras, reflejos, brillos, partículas, agua)
· Los gráficos no están nítidos (los cristales en Miriam se ven súper borrosos y otras texturas en el juego aparecen pixeladas)

Al principio pensé que así era el juego, pero después de investigar en línea, decidí comprar la versión digital para ps4.
¡Que gran diferencia! El juego es prácticamente perfecto en esta plataforma, todas las deficiencias que acabo de indicar no suceden. El juego se ve limpio y nítido, súper responsivo y más rápido en tiempos de cargas.

En conclusión: El juego es excelente sin embargo NO lo compres en switch, la versión definitiva es la de ps4.

Supuestamente saldrá un parche para mejorar todas estas fallas, pero al final del día la versión del ps4 ya está disponible y ya funciona perfectamente.

El juego es excelente, simplemente está versión en Switch tiene muchos fallos, los gráficos no son tan nítidos como deberían, se ralentiza en algunas situaciones. No me mal entiendan, sí se puede jugar pero podría ser más fluido.

Si tienen otra consola donde jugarlo mejor compren esa versión, ahora que si lo que quieren es jugar en portátil habrá que acostumbrarse a lo que mencioné.

El juego es maravillo y para quienes les encanta los juego de plataformas tipo Metroidvanias, es un juego que debes tener y jugar. Lastima que esta version de switch salio en muy pésimas condiciones, se nota que lo sacaron a las prisas ya que la version sin parche es la 0.1... En este momento hay un parche que no corrige casi nada. Si de verdad quieres disfrutarlo compralo para PC o PS4. También puedes esperar un tiempo a que corrijan los errores o saquen una versión definitiva que incluya los DLC y parches.

Sin duda es un buen titulo que logra rescatar del olvido a la saga de Castlevania, pero en el Switch el juego corre de manera forzada, gráficamente apenas aceptable tiene demasiados problemas de desempeño, el juego se congela constantemente, sufre caídas de frames y en ciertas zonas sus tiempos de carga son demasiado largos, el juego se ve y se juega mucho mejor en cualquier otra consola de la competencia.
