When Anita Blake's boss at Animators, Inc., informs her that she's expected to raise 300-year-old zombies from a field of jumbled bones just to settle a land dispute, she's understandably annoyed. But as soon as she arrives in Branson, Missouri, to do the deed, the job gets more interesting. A psychotic sword-wielding vampire starts committing multiple murders in the area, and Anita must call on Jean-Claude, her powerful fanged suitor, for help. As always, Anita prevails over the undead, keeping Jean-Claude at arm's length, clearing the cemetery land of an ancient enchantment, and nailing the vampiric killer in one fell swoop. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Top customer reviews
This book was really good. I really enjoyed this one a whole lot. And I loved that Anita spent more time with the Master Vampire of her city. I also liked learning more about the vampires in general it was really need. And we even got to learn some new things about some new types of monsters that she had to deal with. I can not wait to read more in this series!
I am enthralled by Anita's world in general, & this book had enough non-stop vamp action/bad-guy action to keep me thoroughly interested the ENTIRE way through...
Not to mention a few unexpected twists+turns (unexpected by me at least) that I found enjoyable and somewhat exciting.

My only qualm is that I want Anita to give in to J.C. already! I mean, cha'mon, Laurell!!! It's irritating! Just let them get it on!
*YES, I realize that asking for that to happen IS redonkulous, considering how long ago this book was written, & how many more books are after this one, but it's how I feel, & I thought I'd throw it in because I'm CERTAIN that others feel (or felt, hopefully) the exact same way.
Anyway.... Solid writing. Great fifth book in series. Buy it!
Bloody Bones starts with her being outsourced to Branson to raise notably aged dead in order to learn the rightful owner of the land to which an exorbitant construction is to take place. While in Branson, the Spook Squad loans her out to the local detectives when several teenagers have been brutally slaughtered. Anita feels that there may be some connection with the faerie owned land, the dead to be raised, and the murders. Later, she realizes her biggest challenge is not only a sword wielding creature and an arduous fey monster, but an omnipotent vampire that also realizes the potential of Anita's necromancy.
In order to get answers, Anita calls upon her sexy vampire lover, Jean-Claude. During Jean-Claude's stay to help his "ma petite" we learn about his and Anita's grief-stricken past, although very different history's, Anita discerns that they share a common ground and maybe, just maybe, Jean-Claude has a heart and soul and a passion that can be truer than any other. Letting her inhibitions go for one second, and we get to see how much she lusts or even loves her libidinous blood sucker. Yum Yum Yum!
