This is a breakout album. These guys have been around for a while, making some decent music in the southern hemisphere, while those of us in the north have mostly been woefully unaware of their talents. With this album, that should change. For my part, it is rare that a collection of music can take over my ears as fully as this has in the last few days. The playing is crisp, the production crisper. They have a progressive approach to time signatures. And unlike so many bands, when these guys indulge in dynamic variation, they allow it to come through in the recording. The changes are terrific. Too often what passes for prog rock is just alt rock where the band know how to play their instruments. Here, by contrast, they are really doing interesting things with polyrhythms, dynamics, and accidentals...

I don't have the energy to describe it well - I just want to go listen again. If you like prog rock, just buy this.

What can I say about this band. The answer, not enough. I have been a long time fan of Caligula's Horse since the beginning. I purchased their debut cd "Moments From Ephemeral City" from Ken Golden's awesome web shop/site "Lasercd" back in 2010/11 and they blew me away right off the bat. With their masterful mix of emotion, songs, musicianship and maturity beyond their years. In my humble opinion, as an avid music listener this band is one of a kind. And their new album is no exception. If you're a fan already, then it's simply Caligula's Horse. If you never heard of them before and you consider your fan of prog/metal/rock/alternative and all of the above then buy it, NOW! As a matter of fact buy all 3 of their records, you really cannot go wrong. And if you like and or love the vocalist check out his other band Arcane. They have 2 cd's out and they are both unbelievably fantastic. "Bloom" is so good I will also be purchasing the cd when it's released on 10/30. I purchased the mp3 because I couldn't wait to hear the whole thing. Besides we need to support all indie bands/music. Cheers and happy listening

Bloom is a triumph of modern progressive metal, showcasing the masterful fretwork and soaring vocals that have become the band's trademark. Musically and lyrically, this album evokes a lighter mood compared to that of its predecessor, "The Tide, The Thief and The River's Edge" and also, in my opinion, proves to be more original --- gone are the overt similarities to Opeth and Pain of Salvation, replaced by a unique sound which is owed to, but not borrowed from these great artists.
