So many reviews slamming this book for its lack of moving from the memoir to the scriptures to the "what next" phases - I'm a bit stumped. I didn't purchase this book with the expectation of getting a roadmap to help me overcome the negative self-talk and low self-esteem that plagues me. Rather, I found it a great way to gain confidence knowing that MANY women have the same experiences and feelings that I have. The scriptures provided me a way to see that the mean girl voices that we allow into our psyche are not true, and never were. Indeed, the scriptures were a jumping off point for me to reconsider my own self-worth in God's eyes. I loved the book, truly.

There's a few books in my life that left me laughing so hard tears rolled down my face; one was obviously Anne of Green Gable's when Anne and Dianna unceremoniously jumped into the unsuspecting bed of Aunt Josephine, and the other, Stories From Grandma's Attic when the wet doll stuffed with popcorn began moving and popping due to being dried on top of the stove. I laughed way too many times over those passages, but that was years ago. In Bloom found me laughing the same way, many pages over, and my husband may have wondered over my sanity a few times and not found Scarlette serving her mother bathwater with insects nearly as funny as I do, but that's okay. He's entitled to his opinions and I can laugh page after page because what KA writes is often the exact experiences I have lived. It's something to live life believing you are the only one to walk earth in complicated shoes, but to learn that you are not alone, is remarkable and fulfilling in a way I can't fully explain. In Bloom is the every girl's guide to letting go of shame and embracing who you are. Thank you for opening your heart, Kayla Aimee.

Disappointed...not grounded in the bible...uses unreliable bible translation

I was really looking forward to reading this book and see from a godly perspective how to tackle issues that every woman faces like envy, comparison, and not measuring up but this book is nothing more than personal accounts/experiences that the author went through. She talks about her emotional and experiences of hurt but rarely goes into how to rely on God to bring one out of those moments. The chapters are very short and do not talk about how to apply biblical truths to daily life but instead briefly comments on or gives advice on these issues. She makes comparisons of herself and friends to biblical figures but does not explain how she is making those comparisons or even how they are relevant to modern day experiences. Also, bible verses are simply thrown in the chapters and not expanded upon. The author also uses an unreliable bible translation (The Message) that takes the bible out of context and adds words to it. I am not sure how this book good such high praise as it is not grounded in the word and plus, the author uses quotes from ungodly sources like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. It felt more like a memoir and not a source to go to for godly wisdom or advice. I would stay away from this book.

I've only read up to Chapter 10, about halfway. Kayla is a good writer, no doubt. She spends her words in this book recounting past events in detail, that shape her into who she has become, her insecurities to how she encounters grace. It took me a few chapters, but something is sorely lacking...Jesus. So far, up until Chapter 10, she mentions him once, and it was referring to a movie, how when he is facing temptation the devil is portrayed as Jesus Himself, that Kayla's worst enemy is herself. No, Satan is our worst enemy. And so for this entire book, the grace given is not attributed from Christ, she throws the name of God around and all the fluff verses about women being beautiful, enough etc etc. Grace seems to come from the result of her experiences, something she needed to just show herself. I don't recommend this book and will discourage others from picking it up....I put it up there with Savor, by Shauna Neiquist. Another Christ-denier. But the pretty words sure are attractive!

This is a book I'm sure most can relate to in regards we've all been laughed at in gym class, we've all shown up to school in the 'wrong' shoes or said something really dumb in front of that cute boy....but that's all this is. Chapter after chapter of "when I was in school this happened". It's an easy read so you plod on thinking maybe 2/3 chapters of cute little relatable stories of doing/saying/wearing the wrong thing during those 'keen to make friend teen years'. It's meant to be biblically referenced to find inner confidence but I fail to see where this book meets it's own purpose? Cute relatable stories are a fun easy read but there's no "convert this experience into confidence by....." it doesn't show how to go about trading insecurities for inner confidence, there's no psychology, no life coaching....just cute stories. The bible is mentioned less than a handful of times....rather pointless book in my opinion.
