If you’re a fan of the film, don’t hesitate - this is the version to buy if you have the ability to display it. Restored from the original negative, Studio Canal have done an excellent job in recreating this film to what it looked like when first in cinemas, or possibly better (the 35mm film print I saw back in the day had already had its fair share of wear and tear before I got to the cinema). Sure, that means a grainy picture with some cheaper film stock and some hilariously questionable effects, but that’s the charm of this film. Don’t sit down to watch this expecting a modern movie shot on a Red Weapon Dragon digital camera, and expect rather a low budget horror film made with cheaper film stock, and your expectations will be set at the right level. Kudos to Studio Canal for remastering some old horror cult classics and bringing them to the new format - please keep them coming.
