After buying all 3 editions of "DVD Demystified" mainly for the included discs, I have to say that this one is a let-down compared to those. The DVD discs had stuff that demonstrated various capabilities of the format, but all this has is the same scenic footage in different codecs and a short computer-animated segment. Only frills here are a picture-in-picture of more demo footage overlayed on one segment, a simple 'game' with no sound, and BD-Live material which seems to no longer be online. (There is an Easter Egg which seems to be accessed by pushing the colored buttons on the remote in the right combination, but I haven't figured that out yet nor found anyone else online who has.) I would have liked to have seen uses of all the different audio formats available on Blu-Ray, more different resolutions and bitrates, and more neat things the Blu-Ray format can do. The ability to overlay graphics and sound smoothly was the main thing that impressed me about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD when they first hit the market. Blu-ray discs can also hold more audio tracks and subtitles than standard DVDs, but there's nothing on this disc showing that.

The book is informative, though it also leaves out things I would have wanted to know more about.

This is a good book and offers a lot of information about Blu-Ray. I am planning to create some fancy blu-ray discs from my HD camcorder and I wanted to get familiar with the format.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that besides the technical info (codecs, limitations, etc), this book also includes some information on how to prepare your assets for blu-ray authoring.

Highly recommended! Probably the best book available to date. I subtracted a star because it could be better organized and it also could get more in depth about the compression codecs. It should be more like 4.5 stars....

This book is a very good general overview of Blu-ray and I would say that it goes beyond the basics. Anyone looking to learn about what Blu-ray is and how it works this would be a good book to start from.

This book has all you need to know for the new and the experienced in the bluray business, not only the stuff you'd hope to find like capacities, compression, tables and formulas to calculate how much stuff a bluray can hold, but tips and stuff related to video and audio that will help you when working in HD.
Mr. Taylor also gives us great ways to explain in a simpler language to a our customers (that do not know about technical stuff) why some things have to be made in a certain way.
This is a book to keep near the workstation for quick reference, since there are various answers for the day to day problems.

Great book in every aspect
